1946 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan
Hello all. I was on this forum years ago and has a 1946 Ford Super Deluxe sedan. But had to part with it before I ever even got to work on it. As fate would have it, I stumbled across another 46 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan a week ago and after a little wheeling and dealing, and some air in the tires. It is now mine! The car has been sitting in storage for the past 25+ years. Someone started to work on it, but never got far. And the way they took things apart makes absolutely no sense. ALL of the original parts are there. Anything that was taken off was put into the interior. Well, enough talk, on to the pics!

Welcome back to the club and you taught me something new today, I didn't know that the '46's came with either a flat 6 or the V8. I think all the "46 Sedans we got down here were V8 models. I think the mare door cars are going to become popular as tudors and coupes get harder to find, I personally have always liked them as you could take the while family cruising.I look forward to following along on your build.

Whiplash, they did come with a 6, but it was a less popular option. The 8 is more desireable by hot rod guys, but what a lot of people dont realize is that they only had 10 more hp than the 6. Yeah there are go fast parts for the 8, but since this car is basically all original, I'm not going to swap the motor. Theres no point in screwing with something that is in such good shape. Just run what it has. A part of me wants to rod this thing out, but i cant bring myself to cut it up. And you hit it on the head with the family thing. After I lost the first 46 I had, I picked up a 1949 Chevy 3100. But the wife and I talked last week and decided that building a pickup didn't make much sense seeing as how we will be having kids in the next few years, and you can't carry kids around in a std cab truck... I told her we COULD... by throwing a rumble seat in the bed and strapping them down, but she didn't like that idea. Hahaha. And thanks CF!1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor

I can relate to your thoughts of running it as it is as I would have difficulty cutting up a excellent conditioned complete car too. I appreciate restored cars as much as rodded and it comes down to whatever lights your fire, but it would be nice to have two frames, one with the independent suspension all round with late model running gear and the other stock standard so by unplugging a couple of wiring terminals, steering shaft etc., you could swap the body to suit what mood you are in. yeah, it takes money and it sounds too easy but what a dream.

You have extremely good taste!
The '46 (in my humble opinion,) has far nicer trim than the '47/'48.
I also like the placement of the parking lights more too.
I suppose you're aware that Bob Drake has virtually any part you could need?
Good luck with the build!
(I was actually looking for a '46 when we bought our car, but just couldn't find one...so when the '47 came up at a very good price...I grabbed it.)

Whip, yep that would definitely be fantastic. And I don't know if I would say it is in excellent condition. On a scale of 1-10... of 1 being a junkyard car, and 10 being a show car, I'd give it a 5 1/2. It does need some rust repair but very little for something of that year. I've seen 10yr old cars with way worse rust. And it hasn't really been mesed with. The guy before started "shaving" the body by just using bondo to fill the trim holes. So if I wanted to, I could probably drill the bondo out and put all the trim back on.Last edited by 46FordSuperDlux; 06-12-2012 at 04:32 AM.

John, thank you! I actually didn't know anything about Bob Drake until I was using mans next best friend (Google) during the day yesterday. I was trying to find a trunk handle that didn't cost a fortune. I haven't been a le to get into the trunk yet. Very curious as to what's in there... and I should also mention that I haven't even picked the car up yet. Trying to find a trailer. I have 12 days to pick it up.1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor
