small town car shows
Hello everyone I am new ( as you can probably tell ) A little about myself. I am a gm fan my son ( 16) has a 84 firebird that we totally restored ourselves. It is still a work in progress but basically done. We just swaped the 6cyl for a small block 400 bored .30 balanced flat tops 10.5 comp edelbrock performer heads roller rockers crane cam 480 lift 230 duration weiand intake and edelbrock carb. We are not sure but I think this will wake it up ( HA HA HA ) I have a 78 camaro z28 hurst t tops this is still under construction.
I was reading some old forums on the small town car show. And would like to reply as I live in flagler colorado a small town on I 70 east of denver about 120 miles. I am in the final stages of preparing for our first car show which will be held on July 31st. I would have to agree with the comment that you need plenty of time. I have been working on this show for three months and am going to need the rest of the time to finnish. It can be done but please make sure you have plenty of help from the start planning and contacting people. I will let you know how ours works out and if anyone is interested in participating just drop me a line. Thanks again for the wonderful site and look forward to talking in the future.

They tell me it's better to have a great SMALL event than to have a BIG event that doesn't run smooth. If people enjpy themselves they will tell other people and it will grow on it's own year after year.
If it's well run, and it sounds like your putting in the time, it will be a great event. If it's a great event it will grow. We can never have enough car shows.
There is a 50's style drive in here on Rt. 66. The owners decided to hold a cruise night a few years ago. They had a few cars, next year they had many more. Next year they had police doing croud /traffic control. It's always been a very well run event and has grown more every year. Last year they limited the entries to 1970 and older, because they just don't have the room for all the cars. They take over the grocery store and hadware store and body shop parking lots next door and ther own lot and 1/2 miles or more each way both sides of the street with cars. It has really become an event. They hire a band, Bring in a couple drag cars to get things started, give away a bunch of trophies, Sell all kinds of drive in and Rt. 66 stuff. And sell food food and more food. HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT SHOW!!!Last edited by pro70z28; 04-16-2004 at 08:46 PM.

I love small town car show, they seem more personal. I love big shows like Carlise, but the small ones have a certain character.
Check out http://www.millersville.edu/~uab/carshow1.html for information on the Show It Off car show at Millersville University on Saturday April 24, 2004.

Small town show are the best. This year ours is on May 8 and will even include a chassis dyno. We should find out who the liars are!!!! We also form up a "possee" during the summer and cruise to some of the other small town shows. First ones of the year are great, ya get to see everybody elses new toys. The one in Brookings, SD even incorporates a 1/8 mile drag strip on a run way at the municipal airport. No side by side racing, just time trials and bragging rights.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

In Auburn we have a car club called The Prison City Ramblers that have a car show every July and it brings in between 300-500 cars each year. Wouldn't miss it for anything. The small ones are alot of fun and you get to know alot of the people.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Hey camaro78 - I agree that small town shows are great...they are a bit more personal, and it seems like you know just about everyone! Where is Flagler anyway? I live in Colorado also, but I'm not sure where you're at...
brickman- My father-in-law just moved to CO about 2 years ago from Willow Springs, MO...that's close to West Plains isn't it?

Hey brickman- Yes, it IS a small world ! My father-in-law is Jack Stuart, and he has a 1977 Ford F-100, that he refers to as the "Thunderschicken"...it's a real bright teal color, and I know that he took it to quite a few shows while he still lived down there...maybe you might know him...???

My wife an I organized the very first show and shine in our small town of 10,000 people, last July. We ended up getting a ton of support from local businesses with prizes and even free air time on the radio. OUr had a $10 registration fee but that also got every entrant a proffesional 5x7 digital photo of their ride. In the end we finished the day with 48 entries!! Thats a lot considering it was our very first year and our registration sheet only had 16 people on it the day before the event. This year we have eliminated the registration for the event but asked people to please pre register if they would like a spot, just so we know how much room we need. This summer , after the car show, we are workign with local restaurants to get a cruise night going on with different places sponsoring each weekly event. I wish I had the pictures of our first show to show you guys, but my computer ended up with a virus and I lost everything.
Good luck with your show, it's a great experience!!
