    1970 chevy nova

Hey everybody, Ive never joined one of these groups but i dont really have any friends or know anyone whos into this stuff and it seems like theres alot of knowledge on here to tap into. Im 21 years old and iv been in love with hot rods since i was 8 ( it was a 32 roadster.) and i just bought my first car a 1970 chevy nova.It had a brand new 8,000 miles 350 chevy crate engine. when i got it it needed someone to love it. and i had no clue what i was doing but i just started asking around in oregon (where i was this past month) and got some assembly manuals and some books on whatever i could find. I replaced the front ball joints as you could practically turn the wheel 360 and nothing would happen, i replaced the idle arm which had a large crack, I put in a new edelbrock carb and headers i got in a junkyard, i replaced all the locks i even put a lift on the rear with a shackle kit. I also had someone school me over the phone how to take out the old mufflers and put in some new flowmasters! the glasspacks i got wouldnt fit! (dammit) so im not too bad at being resourceful and i love opening that thing up and makin it even more cherry than it is. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good place to go hang out with like minded people and pick up some tips for instance, when iput into reverse, ( i re installed the hurst reverse lockout shifter because it wouldnt go into 1st when i got it, that took me 2 days a total of 20 hours.....i had no clue what i was doing but it works now.) anyways when i drop it into reverse, sometimes if i give it too much gas and then let off to apply the brake it keeps throttling. i dont have this problem in forward gears only in reverse. and as a result i put a lovely scar into the rear right fender. and raise my insureance thru the roof. so anyways i know this is real long but i hope someone will want to help a real eager guy oout on the road to turning his car into a real machine. thanks! just email me direct if ya like steezo9999@yahoo.com

    sincerely

well that looks like it will make a nice ride. When your alldone.
On your problem it sounds like your throttle is sticking. Checkout
your linkage make sure its not binding up.( return spring or something. you just installed a carb. Was this on your stock
intake? If so you might want to check to make sure your.
your butterflies are opening all the way and not sticking.

Welcome Stiles, and that is a sweet Nova.
I agree with streets...check your motor mounts. You do this by applying the brakes & putting it in gear, with the hood up, then power brake it just a little to see if the engine lifts up......if it does then you replace the motor mounts.

so holy goshness you guys seriously gave me more feedback than i thought id ever get! so i tried that thing that hambiskit recom that i try and the engine is real solid. plus i think if i had a bad motor mount the fan would be hitting the fan shroud. and that isnt ever happening. ( i need to get that fan off and install and electric fan, that thing sucks so much horsepower.!)

and to dust! thank you for the advice im out to go take off my carb and see if the valve bearings are sticking in there. the ones that hold gas in the carb so when you sit at a stoplight and then put your pedal down you dont have to wait for the air to go thru. i bettheyre just sticking and not moving very well, im going to try tapping them down a bit and see if that changes anything. again thank you guys so much oh and tonight ill post my biggest question of all!!! itll be fun!
