New member question...
Hi, my name is Cherokee and I am from Vancouver, WA. My husband and I are opening a shop and I am trying to put together a business pan to get a loan. I am having a little trouble with my market research since this specific field is kind of obscure. My husband is a fabricator and we are going to do mostly custom work on pre 1965 cars. We are also going to do some restoration and odd jobs as required. If anyone could give me some useful info or links I would forever be in debt!! Thanks!
Also, if you could point me to the right forum to repost this, that would be swell!
Hopefully this picture works...it is me with our 1953 Ford pickup that my husband built.

Welcome to CHR and good luck in your new venture. Another good source is the Small Business Administration, they can direct you to an organization called SCORE, Service Corp of Retired Executives. Went thru this years ago, one of the SCORE guys "adopted" me, and became a mentor for me in the whole start up process and throughout the first few years. It's worth checking in to, hope you find some help.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Also, don't forget the IRS...........make sure you know what type of business you need to be to fit your plan.sole prop, partnership, limited partnership, LLC, sub C corp, or corp........all have advantages/disadvantages. And once you decide and get your money, learn which tax laws apply to you because, the IRS can put you out of business in a wink, if you run afoul of the regulations, laws, or miss filing periods or deposits for taxes.

Thanks everyone! Not saying that this isn't useful...because it is...but I have already been through all of that stuff. Now I am trying to write the marketing section of my business plan and I don't know where to look for our market. I tried SEMA, but they were mostly about retailing parts. Help!
