    Lightbulb new kid on the block with a 1960 edsel project

     



    hi my name is jason and i have been working in custom cars for a while! at least sence i was about 9 yrs old my father and step father both had shop one was a body man and the other was a proformance mechinic.... lol i am working on a 1960 ford for the first time i want to keep it all ford have done a lot of work on cars but changed them over to take a chevy motor(lmao)!!!!
    See this car is really special to me it was given to me by my wifes grandfather but he passed away last year, so i want to keep it all ford and i want to build it in to an old hotrod to add a little of me in to it body is going to stay stock looking for the most part. i am going to start with a mustang rear end that way i can give it a little tub and tuck the ss cragers i have under the rear end !!!
    now for the hard part i like the looks of the 2x4 intakes and street scoops but i want a bigblock ford motor the 60 ford edsel that i am working on weight about 3700 pound and the small block isnt going to cut it (lmao) i am open for ideas on the motor and would love some in put about the trans.

    Go for an FE motor (390, 410, 428 or a 427 ((expensive)) and a 4 spd) The 60 Edsel is really pretty rare, but nice looking. Your can build a really nice vehicle from that platform. Make it, dude.

    Actually, you should have to tub it. Just move the spring mounts inside the frame rails and move the spring purches that set on the leaves in. You should already have a 9 inch so why would you want a Mustnag 8.8 rearend?

    I have to go with Duane, an FE motor would work great, especially a 428. Dove makes a 2X4 intake for the FE motors and there are also some stroker kits available for them. I would use a C6 for a transmission.

    Edsels make neat rods. Period big motor, moderate mods, would be a great cruiser.

    Duane the reason for the 8.8 is that i am building it like they would back in the day out of the salavage yard and it is on a budget and i am putting 15"X11.5" ss cragers so that is is for the swicth in rear end and going to tub it for sure!!

    and this is going to be my sleeper and cruiser

    Well, if your going to tub it the 9 inch that is in there is a heck of a lot easier to narrow than a 8.8 and you don't have to put up with axle C-clips. You need to look at the 9 inchers a little more.

    duane i pmed you in private with some stuff that i am looking into like i was saying i need to see if there is a 9" the same length as the 8.8 in a mustang 5.0

    Hey, I E-mailed you back with the same basic info as Mr Mustang
    put on here and included the 57-59 Ford as they are the same width (within 1/2 inch) of the Versailles.

    Now, I am looking for that E-mail and can't find it. Maybe my puter burped.

    1977 and 1978 Lincoln Versilles had a 9 inch rear that is the same length (within 1/2 inch) of the 1979-1993 Fox body
    like i have said before i am not in to fords so i have never heard of the car how hard will it be to find in a junk yard and can you post a pic of one for me
