    Imron compatability question...

Hello. To make a long story short, we have an old car we are restoring (32 5 window), and the body, hood, trunk, fenders, etc. was painted by a guy in Florida. We are now 1000 miles away, and the color on the chassis does not quite match. I have been "elected" by my dad to paint the frame rails, between the front and rear fenders.

The guy who painted it gave my dad a little extra paint, but I am not sure what type it is. The paint can itself says Limco, and BASF. The activator I guess it would be called is a 1:1 mix, and it says acrylic enamel on the label.

My dad was under the impression that it is a basecoat/clearcoat, and although it is clearcoated, the acrylic enamel thing has me wondering. The guy who painted the car did not send any clearcoat with the paint, and I am not sure how to get ahold of him.

Do you think Imron clearcoat could be applied over the paint without any problems? A friend gave me some clear awhile back for an RC boat, and I never used it. The area I have to paint is only about 5.5" x 6', each side...I just don't want to mess it up.

Anyone out there spray Imron over other types of paint? I'd really like to get it done, as then we could start bolting the fenders, running boards, headlights, etc. on. If I dont get it painted soon, I will have to wait until Spring. Please help!

    Thanks,
    Greg

Please disregard this question. I was really hoping to get the paint done, but my dad is going to Florida next month and is going to stop by his shop to have him mix a quart of color and clear. It will be too cold to paint then, so I have just decided to focus on other things on the build, and wait until Spring.

Sounded like a dumb question probably, but a buddy of mine has used Imron alot, and has painted over different types of primer and paint on large scale RC boats. If it would work, Imrons durability is obvious, but Im not gonna try it. Ive waited this long to finish the car, a few month set-back is really no biggie...but I am gettin' real anxious to see it move under its own power.

    Thanks,
    Greg
