Can Kandie paint jobs have ghost flames?

From what I have read Kandie Paints are a translucent paint so does this mean that it would be difficult paint ghost flames on a car that has a kandie base color? I would like to paint my 65 Chevelle kandie tangerine with grey ghost flames on it. Will I run into problemes trying to do this?

I prefer kandie when doing a custom paint job like ghost flames. Do the flames in the base coat, then apply the kandie. That's the readers digest explanation. Do you have experience spraying custom paint? Kandie is dificult to get even so experience is a necessity

typically ghost means that you can only see them when the suns reflection is at the right angle in comparison to your eye. with this stated, using a grey to ghost in tangerine you probably would not get a true ghost effect..
but back to your question, yes it is possible to ghost with candy paints if you take your time and know how to apply candies properly... typically you would just add pearl to the candy coat and for your last coat you would tape off what you want to flame, spray the flame area with 1 to 2 very light coats of the candy with the pearl.
i can spray it alot better than i can explain it, but i hope this helps

pro is giving a good explaination of an alternate method that works well also

    Kandie Flames...

Here is a Project I just finished up... If you look closely at the red flames you will see that there are realistic ghost flames inside the flame design... I sprayed the realistic flames first in different shades of orange and yellow just like the layer of flames underneath it... Then apply an even coat of Kandie Red to get a ghost flame effect...

    A closer look...

Another look... this photo is not very good so it is very hard to make out the ghost flames inside the red, but they are there...

There is another way to get a suttle type ghost flame with Kandies.............spray your base , then lay out your flames over the base then spray a couple of light coats of pearl ( your color choice ) then spray your tangerine over everything , the kandies are so trans luscent that the pearl flame will change hue just a bit , then in the sun you will be able to see your flames . I have done this many time with different colors of kandy.
Just remember the more ammount of pearl coats you spray the more prominate the flames are under the tangerine .
Do a few spray out test panels , and use different types of base colors as each base coloe will give your tangerine a different look , I have always used a special mix of charcoal for my base oats on candies , as I like my kandies with some depth, and the darker the base the deeper and richer it looks , IMO .
Try using one of the new copper bases coat colors from GM, Ford , Or chrysler foe a base oat under your tangerine , will cover nice and have a nice rich look too.........

Have fun , it gets rather expensive to just play around with kandies , to get just the right effectyou want to have . But its the way I have learned to get different effects with kandy.
