Looking for advice
Hi!
I'm totally new to this kind of thing, but here goes!
I just bought a 1983 Pontiac Parisienne, with a 305 (147 000km) and i'm looking to beef it up a bit.
I just did the brakes, and i'm having a guy to redo the support for the body (was starting to rust quite a bit).
In two weeks, it's up to the paint shop; i found a guy that used to paint airplanes. He finds all the rust on the car, fix it and then paint the whole thing.
He gives a 3 years warranty that no rust at all will be seen (i've seen cars done ten years ago, daily driven (even in winter) and absolutely no rust!! 3200 tomatoes (cheap).
Then i want to change or upgrade the motor to around 300hp...that's the reason i registered today, need all the advices possible.
After the paint is done, i'll try to find out how to post pictures so you can enjoy the process.
Ciao!
Christian

Sounds good , but the body and paint should be the last thing you do . You should do all the mechanical stuff first , Like motor swaps , as leaning over fresh paint with zippers and buttons will scratch , dropping tools on the fenders , ect.........

If you can get a three year warrenty on rust repair, go for it if the price is reasonable. Most places won't give any kind of warrenty on rust repair. I heard for aircrafts they have some kind of process that is very good at stopping rust, I imagine the regulations on aircraft are pretty strict. I can't remember what the stuff was called that they used. Rust is always fighting to come back, you can cut it out, treat the backside of the repair, and epoxy the metal and still there is a possibility it will come back, which is why most places won't offer any warrenty. The best bet is replacing the whole panel.

beware of rust warranties. After 30 years in body and paint it is only the hack that can't warn you ahead of the job that rust can and will returnat any time.
Thank you Roger. .
