just got my firewall painted tonight

well after about 40 hrs of welding grinding and filling to get rid of all the unecessary holes and seams in my firewall. Last weekend I screwed up the house of kolor kandies royaly. I was so mad i took 80 grit and sanded it all back down to the metal and started over

Today I decided to go for round 2. i am very happy with the results. Not a riddler car by any means but i think it will grab some attention at the local carshows.

house of kolor kandy tangerine (eurathane enamal ) sprayed over orion silver base color. with a couple layers of clear to protect it.

    what do you guys think?

no actually its all rusty. lol

I am putting new rings and bearings and stuff in it which is why i did the firewall now. I didnt want to have to pull the motor again when its time to paint the rest of the truck. I plan on getting the motor cleaned up a bit and painted before it goes back in.

also i forgot to mention this earlier. I hand made fiberglass fenders for my toy and they have no inner fenders so the bottom of the firewall is going to be blacked out with rubberized undercoating. I did not pay alot of attention down there as you can tell by the pics. It will all be covered anyways

    Thanks for the compliments,

I am really pumped about it but its my toy. I wetsanded it and buffed it out today. Its loking even better than those pics alot smoother. the eurathane enamel doesnt lay out as smooth as a bacecoat.

I cant wait to paint the rest of the truck but as stated earlier it will be months away. I am still stuck on color schemes. I originally wanted to paint the whole truck kandy rootbeer but i decided a 2 tone with the tangerine would be better. but the rootbeer sprayed over silver in bright light there is almsot no difference between it and the tangerine. i am considering the rootbeer over gray as the other color. it has a really dark chocolate look to it. should be a great contrast between that and the tangerine.

ntfday thanks for the offer but i am not that skilled this is only my second paintjob in my life.

here is a link to my free webspace if you want to check out the rest of my toy.. also has pics of the other car i painted. a neon painted kandy oriental blue.

anyways thanks for the vote of confidence and i will post more pics as i get it done.

dave thanks and I hope so on the extra time. This is my first real build of a street rod.

I am learning the hard way that you need a plan and a sequence of when things have to be done. Next time around i think I will make a flow chart /list and go by the numbers. Almost everything you do affects other things you have to or need to do. Anyways the jumping around is burning up alot time.

On the good side my patience has not ran out. July 4th will be 2 yrs on this toy. I am married with 5 kids so its hard to come up with money for my toy sometimes. Everyone I talk to says do everything you want the first time around or when its done you will never be happy with it.

well thanks again and i will post some more pics as i get it completed.

Love the Kandy Tangerine. Gives the look of molten steel. Great for the engine.

    thanks

Cleaning up the other stuff now. brake booster steering column and so on. basically everything that bolts to or comes out of the firewall.. still deciding on an engine color as well.
i was thinking a nice glossy black would give alot of contrast and really show off the kandy . ill get some more pics up when i get it done
