Paint help
Ok, I have an 87 longbed silverado that is going to the frame shop sometime this month to be shortened down to a SWB.
i guess im looking for great idea's on what kind of paint scheme i could use and be happy with. Any idea's would be much much appreciated. I'm not too creative when it comes to artistic types of things but I've noticed that the things that really catch my eyes are schemes that REALLY contrast, light and dark ect.
Pictures are nice if possible
The other question I have is about price, what kind of price I'm looking at according to different paint schemes. i DO want a gloss finish. Lemme know thanks!

Two tones are becoming more, and more popular. I personally like a dark pearl on top, where the light makes the pearl work well, and a light solid on the bottom, with it's high visibility, and it's forgiving on chip repairs and such. I'll attach some pictures I found online. Some of them are from group members like Larry M.

Those pictures are great. Do you have any of a model A where they've used the two tone. I think the paint on the top part of the 40 Ford is awesome. Thanks HRP.

Nothing on a Model A, but if you hire the right painter, he can work with you to combine your color choices, and come up with some interesting designs. You might try googling "custom auto painters", and your region, to come up with some shops. Be sure you like their style before you hire them.

Brian, I like the two tones if the right colors are used. Looks like these guys chose the right ones. It'a also something different. The border where to two colors meet is also interesting. You know, the last show I attended had about five A's and three were flat black. Looked like a funeral or something.

I like silver up top and black on bottom. Looks good too. I love that blue color on the first one. That is the EXACT color I want to do my truck and then the purple color on the second one is what I want to do my 48 in. Any idea's on what colors those are?
Also Toad you have a PM!www.streamlineautocare.com

FMX, For the blue, I'd say House of Kolor Majik Blue, or the blue on the new Vettes.
To get a color similar to the second car you'd have to shoot black base, then black pearl, then purple candy, and top off with clear.

Hmm the 48 with the purple will take heaps of materials and money then huh?www.streamlineautocare.com

FMX, It's more a matter of labor, than materials cost. If you are going to buy good paint for an early car, I always plan on $1000-$1200.
I should add, that if you find a dark purple pearl in a basecoat, it will not Look like the color on that '40, unless you do something like I described. Also, you can spend less than I estimated, that is your choice, but when I paint one, I only want to do it once!

I think we discussed materials cost before. I have spent over $2500 for paint on some street rod jobs, because they were done in many colors, so the figure in the last post is not the worst case scenario.
Merry Christmas ya'll
