Try candy purple over House of Kolors black pearl. Really dark with very rich deep purple overtones.

How about a medium purple which is close in color to the pearl when it lights up? Be sure to match it to the actual color. Don't just guess, because it could be more blueish or more redish.

It would look similar to the color on the top of this car.

just to clear it up...i want the BODY paint to be a black pearl (black with a purple "scent")
i want the engine to match it a purple motor probably wouldn't look too horrific with that paint job? Purple block with a subtle splash of chrome. nothing too flashy because the engine is made to run not to stare at

Hopper... I know EXACTLY what you wan't. That color you want is made my Caddilac. It's cald Plum or Plum something I can't think of the name at the moment but do a search for Caddy's paint colors. There was a guy at the local show here with a 38 Sedan or something and it had that on there and was SWEET! It looked black from a distance... a little closer looked black with a bit of brown flake and then close up you could see the purple in it. Looked REALLY good if you ask me. Sounds just like what your hunting for.www.streamlineautocare.com

Porsche had a tri-coat color in the 90's that is probably what your looking for. It was black base with purple pearl over it. Any paint company can mix the paint. You could even use black base with SEM purple passion candy. SEM candys mix in the clear and seem to have a wetter deeper look to them. The downside is all the clear you have to use.

I would still prefer the Caddillac paint if it were me. Easier to get, no as much clear to have to use, etc. Go to a caddy dealer or online and look for that paint color, it looks really good and I bet you 95% it's what your looking for. If I am wrong you can punch me.
But yeah it is called plum or plum purple. One of those, but the dealership will know what your talking about, just tell them it's an old color from the 60's or 70's.www.streamlineautocare.com

There was also a very dark reddish color on the caddys called "Black Cherry". I've used it on a few jobs, and it looks pretty good.

Local community college. They have just certificates for just painting and that way you dont have to go through all that frame, structural and non struct. classes.
Either that or do what all these good geezers that KNOW HOW to paint did. They didn't have schools back then, they just bought some paint, a gun that they had no clue about really (they didn't have internet, etc to ask) and just start trying to paint. Mess with the air flow, get good at gun control and there you go. That way will save you time and money instead of the school. Haven't you ever noticed that it's always the hard working people that never went to school that do all the AWSOME paint jobs? They didn't read out of books, etc.
Now don't get me wrong I am not trying to say the schooling is a bad idea because I am going to college on August 15th for Auto Body but everything I will learn is just from trial and error really, not reading out of a book.www.streamlineautocare.com

Oh also check out the book called "How To Paint Your Car". It has the orangish red Bel Air on the front and is a good book. Just go to a local library if you don't want to buy it and read the whole thing. It will help you understand things more, etc. But after practice before you try painting a car or something, just because you read that book don't mean you know how to paint a car if you get what I mean.www.streamlineautocare.com

Ok gang. It's been awhile. With everything that was going on taking care of my mom's affairs and making a few needed mods to the Healey, it was June before anything really got rolling on this...
