    primer help.

I had a pile of unused 1935 Oldsmobile sedan sheet metal parts that I've had cut done and merged with back a 47 Ford cab to make( what I think) is a sweet one off pickup truck.
Given a limited budget I now need to bead or sand blast the cab and primer the rod before I send it back to the body man for final filler and paint. I do not have a paint booth but would like to shoot the cab in my lane way using a sun shade as cover with 3 sides covered in plastic sheets to slow the wind and over spray.
Here's my question. I don't want to kill me or the cat next door; what primers can use to best seal the newly blasted metal while being safe? (I intend to buy the charcol activated paint mask) I've heard trhe epoxy primers work well. I mostly concerned about the damgers of the vapors.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is the fumes /VOC overspary is all harmful , no safe thing about paint .
The best product on the market for having a sound foundation on bare metal is PPG's DPLF Primer Sealer .
Comes in sevral colors . The LF stands for lead free.

Find a PPG jobber in your area and ask for the P sheet on the product , it will explain all you need to know about the product .

Your body man can lightly scuff the DPLF and apply body filler over the DPLF , it is reccomended by PPG to do it this way , as The DPLF bites harder to metal then body filler .

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the feed back I'll look for a PPG distributor in my area. Du Pont has an outlet near by. Could you recommend any DuPont products?
Also I take it the (airless supply) mask I'm intending to use will work if sprayed out doors?

I'll get pics my the project up some day. I've been snapping pictures of it since it was a pile of rubble to it's first rough assembly.

Sorry I am a PPG certified painter , dont have a clue on DuPont products.
A good 3M charcoal respirator Full face or nose mouth covering will be sufficient . The make them in a few sizes, make sure the one you buy has a good snug fit , no air gaps !
I use both , I have a fresh air system but dont like it , when its cold out you breath cold air and get sore throats , and when its hot out your mouth gets real dried out and cant drink enough water.

Remember this though, if you decide to use a primer that has a hardener, just make sure that mask will handle it! Isocyanates are not good for livivng things.
