You can try it, but just don't expect a miracle. I'd use a coat of Dupont 222S adhesion promoter 30 minutes before the final clear goes on.

for the money he's gonna have into materials wouldn't he better off just buying a little base. and scuffing what he has and then putting down base coat before he clears.. otherwise it'll show every imperfection... although i'm sure perfection is not something he's going for...

clearcoat failures
with all the clearcoat failures i have seen even/especially from the factory, I would really either be satisfied with the color sanding/polish job or just sand/prime/Imron- no clear required for a fabulous shine
clearing an old paint job would just be asking for disaster later(sooner?)

I kinda thought that the clear coat thing was not a good idea but I figured I'd check to make shure. The color is coming out pretty good the hood and the drivers side frt fender is all we have done right now, havn't had time for much else. he did not want to compleatly respray unless he really had to, if it was resprayed, the truck would be almost flawless. It turns a lot of heads and gets a lot of compliments even now, with the paint the way it is.You don't know what you've got til it's gone
