I want to thank everyone for ther input on this so far. I'm still stuck on the candy but I think I'm also going to try HOK KBC candy base coat it is still a try coat system. I have a quart regular candy to paint one of the doors with and see if I can do this and then try the KBC. J. Robinson the roof and feners are the two items that will probably give me the most trouble aside from using a candy. for the roof I was thing of a scaffold or something like that to do the roof then move it to do the rest. I think you are right about using two painters to do this.
Krazy J' the both I'll be using wont alow me to lay every thing out and my door will be my let down panel

I believe HOK makes a video showing how to use and to repair the basecoat candies. Their web site should list it. Things seem a lot easier if you can see someone else do it first.

Thanks Mopar978 I'm going to need lots of luck, good things never come easy and the worst that can happen is I have to do it all over again. It has taken 5 years and what is a couple more I have done 90% of the work so far and it would be nice to say that I also painted it.With help from everyone on this site and my friends I thing I have a good shot at it so wy not try. ( $500 for paint ,$100 for booth, $200 for paint gun, Getting to say you did it Priceless)
Hotrodpaint Thanks I'm starting to lean twords the base coat candy but I'll have to shoot it first

I also think the basecoat candy would be the way to go, not nearly as bad... if you didn't pick up a gun yet and need one i sell just about all of them so if your lookin hit me up. or anything else you might need.. just have to send me a check and i'll send it out..
or if your unsecure i could add what you want to e-bay, just more money. Sorry to whoreCHOP IT UP!!!!!!!

Better plan on more than $500 for paint. Right now it would be $500-$1000 for the good stuff, for a small truck. On full bodied street rods I usually spend $1500-$2000. If this worries you, you will need an HVLP gun, which will save a lot.

I went to the local Car Quest and the painter guy there recommended me a SATA gun (dont remember which model now ) and he said that it was really good and it wasn't real expensive like some of the 400-500 dollar ones. Maybe it was a SATA copy I don't remember now since it was about 4 months ago. I was looking at either a SATA or Devilbiss gun like the Proline or something....
Any idea's here if I will be shooting metallics and pearls? I have a cheap Campbell housing gun that I use for primers and I think I may just keep using this for just primers. It does a good enough job but could be better I just dont have enough money to buy two more guns (one for paint and one for primer).www.streamlineautocare.com

My point would be that if you buy an HVLP gun, (I bought a Sharpe for about $400), It willd save you at least a couple hundred when you paint the truck, since You won't have to spend as much on materials!
You might ask House of Kolor if an HVLP will work for the candy basecoats. I've used mine for pearls, but I have to put a final "mist coat" on, to even out the color.

Yeah I was looking at the cheaper Sharpe's with the green tint to it. If I buy a gun I might as well buy a good one. In about 3 more months I have to buy about 4000 dollars worth of tools with a loan for my auto body class and some auto tech tools so I will buy a gun then.www.streamlineautocare.com

Mopar thanks a lot man. I am going to look more about guns. I dont think I want to buy a cheap gun. I have enough cheap tools as it is and going cheap on a spray gun isn't a good choice, especially since I plan to spray cars as my career. I will definetely see what you have and go through you if I see anything I like.
Thanks!www.streamlineautocare.com

Mopar, I see you sell nice stuff. I am liking some of the Devilbiss guns and Sata's. I see you sell Miller welders, nice. I want to start saving for a TIG sometime next year. I may buy a DA off of you but depends. Reason I say this is because I get 55% off Matco tools and I can get nice DA's through them and all. I don't know about spray guns though, I know they sell air brushes but I have no clue on what spray guns they sell.www.streamlineautocare.com
