Repaint Ideas?
Ok well as most of you know I just purchased a 85 Chevy truck. The paint on it is original (seems the bed and a few other things have had a repaint) and some spots its just primer starting to poke through like little circles from the old paint just getting old. It's not peeling or anything like that. I buffed it up some and cleaned the truck real nice and it seems that I think I can go over this paint by scruffing it up. Now here is where I need help. Can someone look over my quick plans here of what I plan to do and see if this is correct....
First I will strip the truck apart since the jambs will need to be painted and the dash, etc. I will then fix all the dents by sanding the dents and around them to bare metal and then lay my body filler. I will sand the body filler out with.... 220 I think it is and get that all level and smooth. After this, scruff the whole thing up with about 400 grit. After prepping it all and getting a temp spray booth set up, etc I will then tape everything off and then prime the bondo spots with about 2 coats. (I will do a guide coat before all this of course). Then after I do those spots do I sand them with about 400 or just go ahead, let them dry and go over the whole truck with about 3 coats and then wet sand with either 400 or 600 and then paint the truck?
I may have left out a few little things here and there but is that the basic? Also can I just go back over the old original paint since it's still in good shape? This is just about what I did to my friends Camaro and it came out real nice (just ask SprayTech, he is the one who has helped me TONS)!
Thanks a lot for any advise here.

sounds like youhave the basics down, i usually prime at 180 grit but that's just me, i've done 220 on colors that i'm worried about..
just something to let you know before you spend a bunch of time on parts. my bro just picked one up and were' redoing the whole thing... but anyways. found new doors for under 100 and fenders for 75. so might be worth just buying new to save time and effort, then you could seal and spray then and save time and material also.. bed sides are about 250. just a idea. you can get away with just replaceing things on these because parts are cheap.CHOP IT UP!!!!!!!

Mopar, I dont have money to buy new parts really. These doors and fenders and all have no rust. Paint is still nice just chips and faded that's all. Oh and scratches. The truck was garaged for about 10-12 or 13 years, not a spec of rust on it. I took the bed liner off it yesterday and the bed is still factory painted and real nice. The guy hit something though and all along one side is a huge scratch covered with some metallic blue light touch up paint and it's dented down the side. Not real bad but then again I would like to just paint the whole truck since there is a few scratch spots with bare metal. I am going to paint it a dark charchol color with some metallic flake in it. Ever see the new Chevy Blazers with that dark charchol color? That is what I want but a tad darker, maybe Lexus color since I saw a Lexus with it. I dont wanna go with a custom color with extra flake, etc since it will most likely be more money. If I go with that GM charchol color then any idea where and how to get it and get it for a bit cheaper?www.streamlineautocare.com

Thanks man. Yeah I couldn't pass up on this deal. Even though it's not old and only a 85 Chevy 1300 was something I could not pass on. I will get some pics of the truck up on here. I am lowering it 5 inches in front and 5 or 6 in back. I have the lowering springs already, just need the rest.www.streamlineautocare.com
