Another primer quest.
Ok i cant seem to find the right primer. There are so many choices and names. I am planning on the omni series. I am looking for a primer that i can put on and sand and put a guide coat over while checking body work.
Years ago I remember my Dad using a red oxide that he was able to sand and reapply as needed until ready to put the final coat on before paint.
I have been to ppg site.
I guess when you havent purchased paint since late 80's, thing change.
Thanks everyone.
I got metal prep this evening for the bare stuff.
already have done body work over the bare metal.

sounds like your Dad was using lacquer primer surfacer. It has all but been eliminated. You can still find it . Omni has a primer surfacer that is 2K urethane that air dries overnite can be guide coated, and reapplied. The only thing that you will find different is you must use an activator with the primer. You will need to use what you mix. 2 coats without reducing is suffient for most prime outs. Omni MP182 urethane 2k and MH165 hardener/activator. Works great have been using for 5 or 6 years.

I've been using the omni 182 for two years now and have no complaints. It sprays and sands well. As for the red oxide, I say forget about it.If at first you don't succeed... skydiving probably isn't for you.

Dupont has great stuff, I guess whatever is handy. I was using Dulux when centari was introduced. Thier line of products are easier to use but, around here PPG is more available.
Thank you Roger. .
