Rust Repair
I'm in the process of re-doing my 41 pick-up and below the back window on the body bead I've got rust... Can somebody tell me the best way to remove it and also what to build it back with... I'd appreciate any help..........

To do it right, cut out the old rusted metal, I usually go at least 1" beyond where the rust ends and weld in some new metal.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

The best way I know of is to cut away the rusted metal, back to where it's very solid, form a patch panel fron equal gauge sheet metal and carefully weld it in. I use a mig welder, forming small tacks and jumping around the perimeter asI go,so I don't get too much heat in any one area. Hank

I'd use a cut-off tool to cut out the damage, same gauge steel at least 2" longer than the total length of your damaged area, and a bead roller to re-shape the bead. Shape it with your hammers & dollys after running your bead to fit the body. Weld by spots no closer than 1" around edges, grinding welds after you get some on all sides. Weld using this pattern until you have welded & ground to solid. Remember that the grinder creates heat also- so go slow and allow the metal to cool between spots.Jim
