    primer question

I have finished all the prep work that I can see. Of course I expect to see area's that need attention after I prime the car. Question is what primer do I use. I am going to try and use a ppg product from Napa. I have bare metal area's along with wet sanded painted areas and plastic filled area's. Should I use a epoxy sealer first then a hi build primer if needed and if not needed can or do I use a sandable primer next. I don't want the old color coming through even though it is red also as will be the final color.

I would probably use and etch primer first, then an epoxy primer..

etch primer is not chemically activated though, and when you spray over the top of it you can re wet it back up, and it will loose it's adhesion properties, etch primer shouldn't even be made in my opinion..
and go to www.southernpolyurethanes.com they have exceptional products, and will be better than the ppg.. trust me i've been using ppg for the last 6 yrs, and couldn't switch fast enough.. it's really impressive stuff.. check out the forum if you'd like to get some technical support also..

i have used ppg for many years and we did some test strips on aluminum with dp and ppg etch prime and dupont viraprime and acme etch lock. sorry i can not spell .BUT the ppg was last in hooking on the aluminun. the Dp and the etch prime this was over 15 years a go . i do not think it is any better .but i like there paint and clear so i would use acme etch lock and then sand it with red 3m pad and seal with dp 40 and go to k2 primer did many jobs this way and never had any paint fall off but there may be better stuff out ther now

We spray Akzo Nobel Etch Primer on all of our aluminum products and recoat with epoxy. I have never seen a problem arise from using in this order.

Well, I'm certainly no expert on painting. I just use the products that the paint rep recomends. Haven't had any trouble yet. Maybe I'm just lucky, I guess......
