If your neighbors are that close you should also consider the Isocynates in the paints.
I rent my booth to "friends" for 150 a day in advance- they have to let me know in advance so that I have the booth cleared, and I can be there to let them in. This is a going rate about everywhere I've been.

I don't need no stinking paint booth!

I shot my car with my white truck 15 ft away. I believe I did get some primer on it which i wiped away with a rag and acetone days later. I have neighbors too, no comment from them. And it did get a tad cloudy out there. I can't imagine that inside a home built paint booth!

The isocyanates are not a big deal in such a well ventilated area. You still need an apropriate mask. A home made paint booth is going to be blowing unused paint and fumes into the same areas!

I think renting a booth is a good idea for some. Not for me though. At my skill level it hardly seems worth the pain and effort.
