Urethane paints do not need wax for protection. The only reason is to make it a little more glossy.

If the paint is fresh, you can wipe it down with a "glaze". I think Meguiars has one called "Fill 'n Glaze". This will have the same effect as wax, but it does not seal the paint and keep it from drying. It IS water based, so it will wash off.

I use the 3M Perfect-It III line of products for paint finishing... After we color-sand and buff a paintjob we will usually use the the Rubbing Compound then the Finishing Glaze... On some cases especially dark colors of paint we will use a coat of wax to maximize the shine and help to keep the spider-web scratches off of the finished surface of the clear coat...

My painter told me if you cant smell the paint anymore , you can wax it if you like...but he prefers polish , no wax. the paint on mine was baked, he said I can do it whenever I wanted. I waited 60 days. John

Most waxes are paint sealants and like mentioned BC/CC does not need it .
PPG says 3-4 months air dry before any type paint sealant is used .
It takes this long for all Solvents and Catalyst to GAS off for a hard finish.
Now if the paint job was cured by infrared 24-48 hours.
I will only use a good quality polish , it does wash off in time so re-application is required .

To me wax is so 1970's , to many other better products out there .

I am late on this one but like the others said. No need to wax, if anything then just polish and be done with it.

I work for Meguairs and I tell all customers with new paint they should wait at least 2 months this could be longer depending on where the car is stored and the climate you live in.
You can how ever polish it and also use detailers.
I would suggest #7 show car polish to keep a nice luster and shine then either Quick detailer ( you can get this at Wal-Mart Advanced and others) Final inspection or what I use called last touch. These items you siply spray onand wipe off. They will keep a shine and cut down washing the car buy taking off duct and light bug remains.
As far as wax when it is time ALL paint ( with the exception of Nano....but not many peopl euse it or can afford it for now) will be harmed by UV lighting over time along with bird droppings, acid rain and such. The wax will give you protection from this .Polish simply brings out and maitains the shine.
