What primer to cover bare metal/ body panels

It looks like the last paint job done to my suburban was a cheap one.I have rustspots and pealling paint all over the truck. What I am thinking of doing is getting out my small sandblaster and hitting each spot to remove the rust. What do I use to paint the bare metal?I plan on painting it soon but if I spray primer It wont stop the metal from rusting.Would epoxy primer work ok?

We use PPG F3950 epoxy primer. It sprays great and will hold up to anything

Epoxy primers work, but are a hassle because you have to mix batches. For rust prevention on small stuff, I use Pettit Rustlok primer available for $30 a quart at your marine store. It can be painted over rust, is chemically impervious, and is very chip resistant. The stuff is moisture cured as well, so it dries even in cold and humid weather. Brush application only.

The rattle can stuff and most 1-part primers are porous and wont seal out moisture. The metal will continue to rust underneath.

If you are going top have the ride repainted soon ,as in 30 days or so then a good thick coat of anyprimer will do,the shop will more than likely bring most of the ride back to bare metal or atleast repair the questionable areas, which will be the ones u redo ,so anything u do now will be redone. If u are going to paint it your self or are going to wait more than a month or plan on preping it for the paint shop u need to do it like suggested above.
Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

Epoxy primer will be fine. If you don't plan to paint the truck for a few months then you will need to resand epoxy and put one more coat or two and THEN paint over. SPI www.southernpolyurethane.com is a good product and the price is on the lower budget side but this stuff is great. That will seal out the moisture and be fine until you paint it.
