Paint rework
OK, I got a question for you paint guys.......My car was built in '88 and I am convinced that it is the original paint and it is in really, really good condition and has been taken care of by all the previous owners, I'm lucky #7. It's been color sanded and polished and all that good stuff. It's a nice red /clear coat paint job. (Don't know who painted it or what the paint is.) My question is, over the years you're gonna get some dings and someone is gonna put some graphics/striping on it that one might want to change. Is it feasable to rework the paint, ie; remove graphics/striping, fix the dings as opposed to repainting the entire car or is the cost gonna be about the same? I have some striping on each of the 4 fenders and a 1" wide stripe at the belt line all around the car and maybe four dings that are cosmetic. I understand this is gonna be a WAG at best, but lookin' for an educated WAG. Thanks.

I would have to give you this answer:
It all depends.
I doubt that you will be able to sand the stripes off without damaging the paint...but who knows 'til you try it. It will also depend on the skill of the guy doing the work.
Spot repairs never are a 100% success, so if you have the old damage spot repaired, and the damage from sanding, spot repaired, then you will have a car covered in "bandaids", and it will not look like new showroom paint.
I can't say if it will save money doing it this way, either. Depending on the reapirs, and the shop doing them, you will pay $150 -$300 per repair. By the time you add them all up, you might have been able to repaint it all, and have a nicer job.
If it is more important to you to have original paint, than nice paint, that's your choice.

If the strips are under the clear you won't get them off without getting into the paint. My guess without seeing it RepaintCharlie
