I hear chopped walnut shells or plastic beads work very well. They are quick, cheap, and wont damage chrome. My truck was painted with latex or something gummy like that so I had to use paint stripper, a putty knife, and a heat gun to get it stripped. I have had it for nearly two years and still haven't gotten near getting it painted because of the amount of work involved (and the fact that it has maintained daily driver status through the whole ordeal). It's going to take even longer because I decided to remove the bondo I used in the larger dents and fill them with lead.
