GTO front bumper
I am restoring a 1970 GTO at work right now, and getting pretty close to paint. The biggest hang up i have right now is the front "enduro" bumper. The problem is that i had someone else stip all the old paint off of it, which was a pretty big mistake, now it has a bunch of little divits in it from a da. What could i use on this that will both fill and stick to the rubber? im using Slick Sand for primer on the car, and i already know that wont work. I was thinking about using a urethane primer with flex in it for the rubber and blocking that. Does anyone have an opinion if that will work, or if there is a better method?

sem did make a primer for filling we fixed them so a gto guy could sell them we just used dp 40 on them and used ppg k200or k36 and use the ppg flex add??? i think we never did .they do not flex that much they get hard like a rock when they get old any ways with all flim build if you hit it it is going to crack i think the ppg flex was ppg 369?Irish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

awesome. there is one crack in it next to one of the head light openings that i have some lord fusor for...im not sure what the product number is for it though, but i know it doesnt get real brittle. Im assuming i dont need any kind of adhesion promoter before the dp90? Thanks a lot for the help! this is my first time working with one of these! ill post some pictures once it's done,,,should be painted sometime this week!

well you know them dam things had lacquer on them and that stuck? i would wash with soap and water then a mild wax and grease remover then good with plastic bumper prep/ adhesion promoter do your repair and just used the dp on it first . then fill with a K 200 or the k36 and seal with dp or a sealer i would not try to fill it with the DP just get one coat on it and on hot and heavyLast edited by pat mccarthy; 08-18-2007 at 10:10 PM.

awesome. there was about 3 paint jobs on it, and i stripped it down to what seemed to be the orignal primer, because it stuck so damn good, but then i noticed it was cracking in some places, and found it it was way too brittle. that's when i had the other dip shit stirp it to the bare rubber, thinking it should be a pretty simple task,,,but of course it got fucked up,,now there are indents all over it. the whole car is getting sealed with dp 90, so i was going to use that under and over the k36. ill do what you said, makes perfect sense! right now about half the car is wet sanded in 400 ready for sealer, it's about time i quit putting off fixing the front end!

i would cut the primer open after two good coats with 220 let it get warm out in the sun move some of the thinners out try not to load all the k200 on it at once them after it been warm cool it put one more wet coat on it that should do it ??? i hope for you?? then 320 wet step sand it up to 600 seal it paint it .yes i had i guy that strip the paint off his vette with a steel putty knife GOD what a A$$$$ holeIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

its been awesome so far. the only part of it that i think is a draw back is how brittle it is. but i had to buy a different gun with a 3.0 tip to even spray it, its pretty thick stuff. on the can it even says sprayable body filler. well thanks for all the help! it is very much appreciated!!

the stuff i used had a clear peroxide like keytone or some thing to kick it off the vette guy like it was a bear to get out of the gun and clean up was tuff if you let it kick off you gun was junk but i was good for some thing that needed a lot of help .i stop useing it in the mild 80s i realy like the PPG dz primers and used that up till the K-200 came out but a lot of the shop i work at were still using the DZ pirmer for small fast jobsIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip
