thanks guys for all the details that i need to make this right. I did not have any fisheye or any other problem except the gun. i am looking at purchasing non sanding primer. is this stuff any good. it is made by the same company that makes the topcoat i have. the topcoat that applied correctly looks fantastic. has a great, deep shine to it and the website has alot of testimonials. also the paint and primer price is in my money range. here is the link to the primer.

I know Bob, you are right. I bought two of them and they worked so well I went back and bought 3 more. I realize someone like Jay (Hotrodpaint) wouldn't use them, and neither would I if I were doing this all day long for a living, but for us hobbyists they really aren't all that bad. Plus, if I am tired at night and just want to get out of the shop I just toss them in the garbage and don't really lose too much money.

Here is some stuff I painted with them..........good enough for me.

I like Don's idea....most of us dont paint enough to have a helper to clean guns (like my friends who paint all day and have a masking guy and a paint helper). Toss the gun! What a great idea...just like paint brushes. Matter of fact, I have several guns that should have been tossed in 1980!!
    Thanks, Don.

Hey Don! In your picture of your tranny, is that one of your guard Cats??

Btw, the paint work appears nearly flawless to me on those parts, also love the copper paint on your tranny and frame.

Yep Robot, you know how it is. Sometimes you just are worn out after a long day fooling around with this stuff and just want to get home. Rather than spend one more minute cleaning the equipment it is just easier to toss the gun into the garbage and get home to bed. I did recently toss all of my siphon guns away too. These gravity feeds are so much better, and sometimes I would have a splash of paint drip out of the vent hole and ruin what you were painting.

Thanks Barb. Like I said, a pro painter couldn't use one of these guns, obviously a high priced gun costs more for a reason and do a better job, but for us home builders I think these HF guns are pretty darned good. Oh, BTW Barb, pick you up one of those little round plastic water filters that screw between the gun and the hose. Most automotive paint stores carry them. The really go a long way to trap any water coming down the line when spraying. Also drain your tank just before you start, water drops can ruin an otherwise good paint job.

Thanks Bob. No, they are not guard cats, they are SUPERVISORS.

As Bob said, sounds like the vent plugged.... How much air pressure were you running at the gun????

the gun said between 40 to 60 lbs. i had the pressure at 45. i have a in line water filter with a drain on the line. like i said before the first panel looked great. got a small run in the second. by the third panel it globbed paint all over the panel. i looked down and it was running out of the nozzle and dripping on the floor. i do not know what happened to the gun but i quickly said a few choice words and disconnected it. i will never use that gun again.

    Hey Barb,
I painted my son's 69 Chevy truck with their Daytona Blue Mettalic and it came out pretty decent. Also did the interior of my truck with it.

spray gun cleaner for ~$10/gallon works great for cleaning that vent. This cup siphoning out has happened to me more often than I would like to admit.
If you can;t get it just use some liquid (non-paste) paint remover in the cup and throw the end pieces in the cup as well. Makes your old gun spray as new.

i will remember that tool. my gun was not dirty. the only time that it had been used before was when i used it the 2 days before with water to test the spray pattern. i think that the gun was just crap from the get go.

    Barb,

Using water in a paint spray gun is not a good idea.
