Color Match
I found a color I really like for my car but I don't know what it is. I've read that I should do a pearl basecoat and then cover it with a flattened clear. Is pearl hard to shoot? Does anyone know what color this is and who would make it?

Sean I've tried the same questions before here. I think most people will tell you there are 100's of thousands of colors, so the best way to ID it is contact the owner if you are able. Next would be to take a very nice printed copy to a paint store for a computer match(which will be close but never exactly the same. As to the paint layering process, hot rod paint is the man for that question. I'm doing something similar when it comes time to paint my Ford truck. Hope this is helpfull." I didn't really expect an absolute answer to what color it was but I was hoping for some sort of direction and maybe what kind of paint would be best to use. I've never painted pearl colors, let alone a whole car so it might be a little out of my league.
I appreciate the input, maybe I'll word it a little different. You look like you're having about as much fun as I am with the prep work!

Pearls can be a bitch to get to lay with out blotchyness and with out good gun skills and the more you lay on the muddier it looks and and takes on a whole different color , it takes just a little bit in mixed clear and 2-4 coats , to achieve the effect .
Its easier if you play with a spray out panel( like a hood or deck lid ) first to mess with till you get what you want , but like I mentioned before it takes quite a bit of money to just play around with ,or if you dont have the material laying around to just play .
But it can be a fun time to learn

Sean if you have a summit catalog lying about, look at the Sept. Oct issue front page. Could be the same truck , but with a glossier finish." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
