Astro Spray gun
Does anyone have a Astro Pneumatic spray gun and is it worth buying?
I am thinking about buying the EVO model. I am tossing around the possibility of buying a Iwata but didn't want to spend that much for something that will not use that much, I know I could sell it when i am done with it but i have the feeling once I use it I will not want to get rid of it.

Forget about the Astro, I would not even use that to spray booth mask let alone a primer or actual paint product.......
Autobodytoolmart has a couple of starter Devilbiss gravity feed kits for $184.95 (part#6801),,One for painting(1.3mm tip), one for primer(1.8mm tip), and one touch up gun(1.0mm tip) in the kit. Iwata and SATA make some nice guns, but the old adage of "you get what you pay for" rings true........
Are you planning to do single stage or base/clear? That and what type of budget do you have for a quality gun?

Thanks Bill

Hot Rod black is sprayed as a single stage enamel, the kit I mentioned above would be perfect for your needs.
Make sure when you are ready to paint, that you do a series of spray out cards to determine exactly which level of "suede" you are going to end up with. Start with a 4:1 mix, then work your way up to a 1:1 mix, allow each one to dry for a few hours then set them outside and see which one you like best.........

I have a few Astros, and they do a good job-they are not Iwata quality, but they spray Epoxy and such very well-I have a few EVO 4014 (1.4 tip) and EVO 4018's (1.8 tip)-remember, they are LVLP-
Due to my circumstances, I wasn't walways able to clean them, so I considered them throw away for a while there and bought a bunch of them (I know, I know ! ). Now, I have one that I really like, it fits me well and I now actually clean it!.
If you need a 1.8 (EVO 4018), I have a new one in the Box (I already have one out of the Box that I use) and I would make you a killer deal if you a planning to shoot 2K-I buy them from auto body toolmart.
Anyway, I am not saying they are a LPH400, but the Astro's (in my opinion anyway) are a good gun for the money. If you are going to do a bunch of shooting or really want a good gun, look at the Iwata-Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Just don't expect Iwata or even DeVilbiss results with an Astro gun....Which is the main issue for you, the initial cost or the final result???? A paint gun is another tool and tools are an investment, not an expense.....JMO I guess.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I am looking for final results. there is nothing worse then having to do something twice, especially when paint is not cheap.

I do still have a binks 2001 siphon feed that is like new, but I think I would have to buy a better compressor.

Don't hesitate on the Iwata LPH 400. I made the painful steps up to that gun and though it cost me a lot more then I wanted to pay, it sure is a lot better then anything else I have ever used. It sprays at 16 psig rather then the 23 - 25 everthing else uses, has a very low air volume usage at 9.5, so even a fairly small air compressor will work. I do use a Devillbiss Finishline 3 or Sharpe 400 for primers rather then the Iwata (I just can't bring myself to "abusing" a $500 gun with heavy stuff )Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug
