Aircraft quality (and safe) paint stripper is required, followed up with 180 grit, then 200 grit, and finished off with 320 grit automotive grade sandpaper. After all that is done you need a DTM (direct to metal) epoxy primer followed up with a good topcoat of paint (enamel is fine for it). Do not leave it just primer/sealer as primer/sealer is not meant to be exposed to the elements and will actually attract and wick moisture causing the panels to rust even faster than before.

Hey Bill, what direct to metal epoxy are you guys using out there???? I'm still doing the etch thing, had problems with some dtm primer.....
