flat black paint job
ok here's the deal...i got a 88' chevy pickup, standard cab, long bed, there's some body rot at the rear cab corners, and above the rear wheel wells, i need a round-about guess timate for a flat black paint job, and a gloss paint job, i'd also like to know which will hide the "imperfections" better...gloss or flat, oh and how do you think the flat black would look?

The ONLY WAY to get a price on ANY paint job is to take it to a QUALIFIED body shop and get an estimate.
Here are 10 threads that cover it pretty well............

Bet there's rust along the bottom of the doors and front fenders toooooo.

I did a similar truck last year. I welded in panels at the top of the rear wheel wells and new cab corners. Painted it blue. I wouldn't take the job if he wanted black. This wasn't show quality. Just a work truck that wouldn't pass inspection. The front fenders, doors and rockers had been replaced before I worked on it. I charged $1500 for the bodywork and quickie paint job.
If you do your own patches and bodywork Maco will spray it for $250. the shine will only last about 1 year before it starts to break down unless you opt for the acrylic enamel for $399 or so." Im gone'

ProZ is correct, flat black will hide some, gloss black will actually accentuate any imperfections. The problem with flat black is that it will really show up smudges and other road crud and is hard to clean.
Cooler colors like light blues and greens hide dirt and dents better.
I always liked the sinister look of flat black jobs, but they are a bear to keep looking good. I painted the hood and trunk lid of my 340 Challenger flat black with the rest of the car done in gunmetal grey metalflake and some pigeons from the building next door got happy and celebrated the nice job....

I just painted my 67 with a matte finish black from Endura paint products and it looks great!! It really hides the imperfections , which is good because this was my first attempt at body work and painting.
Here is a pic of it after 2 coats of matte black
