    Fiberglass gel coat. Paint it?

I know this is a car forum, but our church steeple is fiberglass and has a gel coat finish. It is somewhat discolored in some areas as it is about 9 years old. Can I polish this out with something or do I need to refinish some how? Somebody know about fiberglass?

    You can...

Sand it and paint it... if you need to do any repair work to the gel coat you can use body filler... Just be sure not to sand through the gel-coat...

Where is Bonnerdale AR, located anyway?...

If you have to refinish it, do as Dave has outlined. Once you rough up the gel coat and prime it it's just like painting any other item.

However, you may want to try buffing it up after a good, thorough cleaning. A mild compound and a variable speed buffer should do it unless it's really deteriorated. If you've got any boat maintenance outfits in your area you can check with them, polishing up gel coat on boats is common practice.
