rust
I am interested in some of the rust converters , coatings and so on. I have used por15 in the past and cannot really tell you the result. I have also used one step and did not like it . What I would like is an opinion concerning these so called
rust fighting products. Zero rust, rust bullet and por 15. I have always sandblasted all my stuff and had good results without these products . My question is this, suppose on my forty coup[e I want to try one of these on the
inside of the roof . there is a bit of surface rust up under there and some old sound
deadener. I scraped the sound deadener
off and have cleaned it up a bit. .Do you guys believe if I use one of these products that convert and seal it , that it would be possible for the rust to come thru the
top side if the roof. I have read somewhere that it is possible being that you are trappiing the rust and it will come out somewhere . If the products do as they claim and actually convert the rust this should not happen. Anyway I have done bodywork and paint off and on since 1974 0r 75
but am open to new ideas and products
thanks Darin

Darin,
I've used Por 15 on my frame and I also painted a trailor with it. I use the trailor out in the woods to haul wood, in fact the trailor sits out all year round uncovered and it's doing great. NO rust.
I also sand blast everything before I paint it.
Like you, I'm going to paint the inside of the roof and I'm going to use Por15. I'm also going to paint the underside of the body with it. I am going to top coat it with a different color, however.
So far so good is all I can tell you.

I sand blasted the entire exterior of my 29 Studie Vickie, on the interior side I just wire brushed the loose rust off. Then coated it with POR 15.
To make a long story short. The body then sat outside in Michigan weather for over two years. The POR 15 looked like I had just applied it. It has now been over twenty years and the stuff still looks like new on the inner surfaces. No rust creep at all, no rust thru anywhere!

Por 15 is not worth a crap for painting over, it will raise on you if you aren't careful. I remove it if it's on the body I have to paint.
I sandblast & use Rust mort, then a good epoxy sealer over the metal, before I do any work. This seals the metal, and is compatible with the top coats.Jim

Thanks Guys, my plan is to use either por 15 , rust bullet or zero rust . It doe's not matter so much about top coat except that I will spray some sound deadner over it..
I will not sand blast this but rather scuff it as clean as possible . Actually most cars I have worked on have a fair amount of surfacerust inside of panels such as doors
and roofs. Darin

hambiskit...what I've painted so far is the frame and rear end. I was going to paint them to match the body (when I get that far), but I was not going to paint the body with Por15. Do you think the paint will raise on me even on the frame?? I've never painted over Por15 yet so I've got no experience with that.
