Need advice on chassis paint
Maybe I'm looking for a magic bullet, but does anyone know of a good, durable, one step chassis paint (black)? I have the roadster pickup frame boxed, bracketed, and wire brushed. Some of it is 74 year old steel, pitted and rusty but wire brushed to remove any loose scaly rust, some of it is new steel, and much of it is welded. This frame will not show, as I am running a full fender package, but I would like to paint it a nice gloss or semi gloss black paint, that does not need a primer. I want to spray or brush this frame once, and be done with it. In the past I have always used a good primer, then sanded the primer, then topcoated with acrylic enamel, but this was on highboy roadsters where the frame was exposed and had to be flawless. Now I am older and lazier, and this frame ain't gonna show anyways, so can anyone suggest a good , one step, chassis paint.Old guy hot rodder

POR 15 comes to mind, paint right over rust and it is glossy and somewhat self leveling but unless you have an old spray gun you can discard after, brushing is nesseary. it runs for about 80$ a gallon. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Or I forgot about what I'm using, it's Rustolum hammered finish, little cheaper and sprayable if wanted, it covers up rust pretty well and it dosen't need primer ither, cause it's epoxy. it's available at walmart and a few other places, 9 and change for a quart can and somtin like 4.42 for a rattle can.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I had painted the chassis on my 32 Ford with POR15 about 12 years ago. It came out absolutely perfect. In fact, up till the day I sold the car, Oct. 03, all I ever did was to wipe it with a rag and it was back to nice and shiney.Mike Casella
