Spray, first thing. Yeah I know that isn't a REAL ghost flame but a lot of people call that one but yeah I was thinking of what you said about that kind of ghost flame too. See I wan't something COMPLETELY different and reason I am second guessing about the solid looking blue flames is because they will stand out TOO much and those on that merc don't stand out as much and the real ghost flames dont stand out even more... Not sure what to do here. I think for a begginner like me is to do the flame job like on the merc there. Do you have any ideas on what I can do to the front end of the car like as in what color and what color to paint the grill or any pics? Also about the paint booth, I am going to use PVC pipes and hang from the ceiling instead of 2X4's. Then use fans and a little heater when I am all done with the paint and put the air flow out and then bring in a little warm air.www.streamlineautocare.com

That plastic is speacial made by 3m , it is not suppose to let paint flake off of it when its painted , I always use the correct paper to mask off windows and wheel openings , I only use plastic sheeting when I have like a front end spot job and just wrap off the top of windshield down and to the rear of vehicle (as its faster and cheaper ), and paper down around every where I am going to have color. Plastic has tons of static and pulls dust right to it , so I dont reccomend using plastic on a complete. ( I have used news paper to wrap a car off too ,when I have run out of my masking paper. not at work only at HOME )
The new masking paper is double layered , it has a very thin layer of plastic in between the paper layers to keep over spary from soaking through the paper .
Painting has gotten so high tech now its not like the old lacquer days ....LOL

Oh also if I did try to do REAL ghost flames could I still use some kind of pearl blue at least? Also you know how you say that black will show every imperfection and will show if the body is real good prep and body work? Well that is how I will like it because then it can show people how good of a job I did with it and that there is no slacking in the body work and show how much time I put into the car. I am VERY picky about paint jobs and body work. I know I can't talk too much here about how I dont like crappy paint jobs but it's something I am really picky about.www.streamlineautocare.com

Pearl blue would look awesome over black !!!!
I am in the process of shooting spray outs for a buddy of mine for his T bucket project.
Its going 2004 GTO purple with violet pearl ghost flames.
I did the panel at work today and have to give it to him tomarrow , I will see if I can shoot a digital Pic of it and post it if it will show up here .
I only did it in 25 minutes as I didnt have time to really mess with it ,.
He was wanting an idea of what it would look like .

Ok sweet I may go about with the blue ghost flames. I will paint my golf cart and do it on that first and see how it looks. What about the front end though, what can I do there? lol Sorry that I keep asking you that but that's what I am mostly worried about.www.streamlineautocare.com

About the only thing I can give is get some front end pics of your car and print off a whole bunch and draw on them and see how things will look.
there are so many ways to flame like i say .
I just grab a roll of 1/8 in blue vynal 3m tape and go crazy. see what looks good in your eye.
I would chrome the grille as to much black and no chrome will be to overpowering IMO.
Plus peariling the whole front end with the flames might be way to much also.
I really cant say how to do your car but its more like trial and error , and how YOU want it to look like.

Yeah I see what ya mean. Thanks a lot. I will just have to spend about a month and draw it all up, put it on the computer and mess with the colors a ton. Now I don't know WHAT to do haha. I am going to have to decide between 3 different kind of paint jobs now...www.streamlineautocare.com

The blue pearl may flop to a purple cast in the sun,
I am using PPG's powdered pearls that are on my DBU/DBC mix bank.
There are other pearls out there like HOK that may not hit on the purple side. I havent tried them as I get my pearls free from work ....LOL
Custom paint work is not much learned as it is just doing . It doesnt come over night .
another thing to watch out for on pearls is the base that you shoot it over , it will change colors depending on the base it is shot over.

Alright. Well what I will do is draw up a bunch of designs, etc and then get a little bit of paint of each color and do tests like gloss black base and pearl blue over it and then clear it and if it does the purple then I will try something else or not even do that. I will let you know what I decide and I am going to mess with photoshop a bit here too.
Thanks.www.streamlineautocare.com

those guns look like the older SATA guns , and theirs are 14.5 cfm/ 43psi .
Most HVLP guns are in that ball park .
And dont forget to buy a 3M charcoal respirator for spraying anything please
