How to Contact Rod Owner to Determine Paint Details
As a new member of this group I have a question for the Paint Tech or Moderator, or any member who may know: I am restoring and modifying my vehicle, and am ready to have it painted. I see in the Gallery on this web site for "Hot August Nights 04" that there is a beautiful gold paint job that I would like to duplicate. It is on a vehicle called "39 Karat", but all I have to go on is the photo in the gallery. There seems to be no info associated with the gallery photo that would help in finding the owner and asking about the paint specs.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

That car is on the Flow Masters web site.
They might be able to help you out

I was the one who took the picture at Hot August Nights. I have seen the car at a couple of events including the Sacramento Autorama (I believe it won an award). I will check around to see if I can come up with the owner's name
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Thanks Stu Cool and MrMopar64: Its great to know that you took the picture of "39 Karat" Pat. If you can find out any contact info, just let me know. I did go to the Flowmaster web site. Yes, it is there, but there is no additional info other than the picture, just like our web site. It is interesting that the paint looks a bright orange in the Flowmaster picture, but much more Gold in the photo that you took Pat. You saw the actuial car Pat, which photo is more true, the CF1498 photo on Flowmaster or the one shown on this web site (your photo)?? That is important to me, because I would like to duplicate the color in your photo, but not the color exhibited on the Flowmaster site! Where was the August Nights Show held?
There is no contact e-mail on the Flowmaster site, just a telephone number (usually it is the other way around!) I will call them during business hours tomorrow to ask them if they have any info on the owner of that vehicle. Thanks again for the input.

Odds are, if it's a special color it's a House of Kolor product. Here's a link to a site with their chip charts. http://www.hokpaint.com/chips.html
If you find what you want you can order it from them or find a local automotive paint jobber in your area (that's where the body shops buy their supplies) who sells House of Kolor (a Valspar product).Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon
It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.
Luck occurs when preparation and opportunity converge.

Dave,
Hot August Nights is in Reno Nevada. The car is gold color, hence the name 39 Karat. It has a lot of gold trim as well. You might search for 39 Karat with google or look for "Sacramento Autorama" The car has been shown recently at a number of West Coast shows, you may find the owner listed among award winners. I'll be asking around this week.

I did contact Flowmaster, and their rep (Barb Bettman) informed me that their policy prohibits giving out the names (or any info) of car owners in their photo gallery. They would not even release the name of the car club that he is in. That looks like a dead end.
Pat, please compare the photo you took to the photo of the same car on the flowmaster web site (the direct link is in the earlier reply above). Which is the more true color? Thanks.

It might be a long shot but maybe you could ask them to pass your number along to the owner and see if you hear from him
just a thought

Dave,
As for the color, notice that the car is in the shade in the picture I took and in the bright sun in the Flowmaster picture. That will account for some of the color difference. In as much as I have only seen the car a couple times, and am also somewhat (OK a lot) colorblind I am probably not the best one to offer an opinion on the color. I will say that it looked very gold to me and usually my digital camera provides pretty accurate color rendition, or so I am told. Bear in mind that monitors and video cards can also impact what you see on your computer. Hopefully one of my contacts will know who the owner is and I will be able to pass it on to you.

Might be HOC Kandy Pagen Gold over a gold base.
That color is one hell of a color to spray , and have no tiger stripes, or flaws.
Its not a color for the beginner to try, get a pro to spray it !
