Your average condition set of plates only goes for about 10 bucks. Wish it was more cause id sell all mine if they were.

In most people's english this means "is someone willing to buy these". So you get a valid response from someone else such as Richard gave you and you come back with some smart ass retort. It's a simple answer, you check ebay. If nobody is bidding on them then there's no market. If 1 or 20 people bid there is a market. Then it's up to you to decide whether you're interested in selling or not.

I don't get this kind of attitude. You're about the fifth person new to this forum in the past couple weeks who seems to have a chip on your shoulder. We attempt to give some sort of valid reply to what is often an incomplete question and the poster cops an attitude!!!! If you expect people to help you you need to change how you treat them!!

You DID post this under "parts for sale".If it aint about the money or the historical value what else is there? What is your definition of a market?

Ebay is the best market for them. Flea market is the only other one. If you don't need money put them on ebay for $0.01. If you have any valuable ones they'll be bid on if not some dealer will take them off your hands cheap.

I have a friend who was selling them on ebay but the market is going away. The demand is getting smaller while the supply keeps growing. Bent or rusted plates have almost no value at all. Thank god they're not restored or they might actually be worth something.

    Hey Kickstart.
The guys here are mostly correct about the supply being larger than the demand, especially since the advent of ebay.
However, if you have plates that are in really good conditon, they may bring a little more depending on the years of the plates.
Pairs of plates are usually worth more than single plates.
Also, sometimes if the plate has a certain series of numbers or
only three or four numbers or letters; then they can be worth more.
If you have several years of plates with the same numbers, they are worth more, sold as a group.
Another thing is that if some of your early plates are made of porcelain, they can bring a lot more money. I'm not sure if NY made porcelain plates in the teens but some states did.
Some states allow you to run model year plates. Like if you have a 40 ford, you can run a 1940 license plate. So again, if they are in good condition, they can bring more depending on who sees them.
Sometimes at a car show where they have a swap meet, the plates will bring a little more money than on ebay, however in the same vein, if you really have a plate or plates that are sought after, than ebay could bring you a lot more than you would have asked for at the swap meet. It's sort of a crap shoot.
But the guys here are right about ebay being a good indicator of what they are worth.
    Good luck.
