    406 SBC for sale

I built a 406 SBC to put in an old mercedes that I have had for years, but with the price of gas,I think I'm going to build a smaller inch motor. this is a complete engine, 509 block + .030 -- dished speedpro pistons-- hyd cam 224* 234* .488 lift-- gm heads 2.02 ported etc.--air gap intake with Edelbrock 750 carb & air filter--pro comp ignition w/Taylor wires--GM Performance Parts black alu valve covers. alu water pump.It is painted chevy orange. It was built to pull a heavy car. I bet it would be lots of tire smoking fun in a lite car!!! $3800 invested but would sell for $3250. located in central Kansas. My loss your gain. Jeff 620-549-3770

nice looking motor, why dont you take the 600 bucks you will lose on selling it and buy 600.00 worth of gas. seems like now you are wasting at least 600.00 before you even start the motor, but you are worried about wasting money on gas. Not to mention a smaller inch V8 motor will not save you a whole lot of gas anyway.

Good point, But a friend gave me a 350 vortec with the serpentine set up and everything that I think will make a cleaner install. I have had this car for 15 years and don't plan on selling it so over the life of it I hope the diff in gas will pay off. But with the serp setup will make the ac & ps will be easy, and my alu pump is a cw & the serp is ccw so it won't work.I know it won't have the torque that the 406 will have,But my wife tells me its time to grow up and stop smoking my tires anyway.

Makes sense to me. Let's say you get 15 mpg with the 400 and 20 mpg with a smaller motor. Let's also say that $600 will buy 171 gallons of fuel @ $3.50 per gallon. You'd be able to drive 10,250 miles with the 400 motor before you reached a break-even point. And think about the SMILES per gallon factor.
