    Plymouth flathead 6/tranny

     



    I have a flathead 6 and tranny, out of a 1954 plymouth. This engine runs strong as an ox. I pulled the engine to make room for a 327. Unfortunately, when I brought the car the odometer was broken, so I don't know how many miles are on it, exactly. If it matters the odometer was stuck @ 67,000 miles. Willing to trade for parts for the 327. Make offer if interested.

    THanks guys, but I was looking for a slant 6, But this might sound like a possibility too.
    Rodz'nrangerz what parts are you looking for? Its not a 327 but I got a torn down 350 that I am looking at getting rid off, its got everything but the carb, timing cover and timing chain. All is stock, only problem with it was the heads needed to be rebuilt, minor ridges on the cylinder walls which is normal from an engine thats been used. Didn't need to ream it to pop the pistons out.

    Joker,
    That 350 sounds like it would probably work for me. Do you know what make/model the motor came out of? Let me know your thoughts on the Flathead V6, like I said it is a real dependable motor, haven't had any problems with it at all.

    it came out of a 78 GMC K15 truck. As I said its all torn down right now but the engine ran solid before we pulled it for a crate rebuild.
    I would be interested in the Flathead depending on the price. I am a little short on cash right now, Trying to sell off some old parts to get some to start on this car.

    Well, I'd be willing to make a straight trade, I'm not really looking to make any money off it. I just want it out of the garage. I was thinkin', if you have a free weekend sometime we could meet each other half way, some where in South Dakota. Let me know your thoughts.

    Rod, you got a deal, I just don't know when I would be able to make it down to S.D. ed to find a weekend that me and my fiance are both off. That way she can go down to see some friends and I can use that as an excuse to meet you down there.
    But I will let you know a few weeks before. Thanks, And just to make sure you are aware this 350 has been dismantled to check all components to make sure all was still good. Which from what I can tell its all still good.

    Sounds good. I'll assume you want the transmission as well, right? They are still bolted together. You can take down my e-mail address if you want and feel free to e-mail me. I have weekends off, so whenever you're available. I'll touch base with you in about two weeks.

    One Last Question, do you have the motor mounts? Is the engine a 2 bolt main of a 4 bolt main? Do the main caps sit firm, or will it need machining?Take Care.

    No motor mounts, they went on the replacement engine. and its a 4 bolt main. You will want to machine the engine as it is torn down. Might as well do it right.
    And yea I will take the tranny, by the way what is it? Auto or manual?

    Sounds awesome on the 350, glad to hear it's a 4 bolt. The transmission is a manual, the old three on the tree. Need anything else for it?

    Cool Rodz, Whatever you have that you want to get rid of for the engine or tranny I will take. I am not sure what I have for the clutch right now as its all torn apart so I would rather have extra than not have it.

    Well joker, I'm not too sure what all I have for the tranny but I'll check. I know the clutch was hooked up by some really chincey stuff. I think I threw it away, because it looked like it might fall apart if you looked at it wrong. Anywho, I'm stoked to get the old engine out and another one in. By the way, I have the plymouth manual that covers '46 - '54, so if you don't have it I can make copies or scan info for you.

    The manual would be great Rodz, I haven't been able to find one yet.
