    No Good Heads!

If anyone here has any old heads they don't need that are screwed up, rusted, warped or whatever it is and you don't them anymore then I would really be interested in buying them for really cheap or if you are going to throw them away anyways I would pay shipping to get them. I am wanting to practice porting and polishing before I do the real deal on my heads for my truck. Please let me know!
    Thanks a lot!

have you went to some of the local shops and asked, shops around here give them away all of the time, so they dont have to move them. save shipping also.

Alright cool, well acutally just that I thought about it... At school upstairs there is a bunch of old engines and rear ends, etc and I think there are some heads up there. I will go up there and take them home if my teacher doesn't care. Thanks for the help man, and yeah this would be much easier than shipping them to my house and all.

Not sure yet man. I didn't know there were different kinds of portings. I saw a thing that explains it in my big block chevy books and I haven't gotten to that chapter yet but when I do I will be taking lots of notes, and then practice. I will for sure get pics. When I get real good at it then I will do my 302 heads on the Ford and then later when the 454 is built on the 48 I will do them too. I won't do it unless I know how to do it really good without worrying about messing up.

just a thought... try to find a set of the exact heads you'll be using. cut them up in a big ass band saw, down the length of the ports. this will show you how much material can be removed and where. also, remember that bigger isn't necessarily better when it comes to porting. you want to smooth the airflow, not just hog out the port. sometimes ADDING material in the right places can make better numbers.

Devil, thanks for the help man. Well today I asked my teacher about using the heads we have at the shop and he said he isn't supposed to let students have nothing from the shop or take anything home but he said if he doesn't notice or see it (cough cough) then it's cool with him and to not let anyone know at the school. I went upstairs in the big storage room above the shop and found some heads so next week I will be taking them off and bringing them home to use. Not sure about getting the same heads I will be using. I plan to get aftermarket heads anyways. I won't be boring the ports out or nothing, just smoothing them down, etc. I will keep it at a minimum. I think I may make a thread here for "Tips on Porting". I think that would be cool so I can hear mistakes others have made and then tell me what you just told me like how not to go too much and so on.
