Soft Tonneau Cover for Model A
Does anyone know of a soft tonnaeu cover for a Model A truck bed? I was going to use one of the button down versions to cover the bed of my 29 roadster pick-up. I am also open to any ideas you guys might have as well.
Thanks in advance.Itsaposcj5

I had one made for my open 27 roadster about 10 years ago so the interior wouldn't get wet if it rained when I drove it to work and left it for 8 hours. (had no top).
The upholstery guy screwed on dome fasteners to the top of the cockpit area, about 8" apart and about 1" down from the top all around the sides and back, and across the top of the dash.
The vinyl had the snap on portion of the dome fasteners attached to it around the edges in corresponding positions, and it stretched a bit to snap in place, It looked good and worked well.
The only issue with covering a pick-up bed, is that at rest it will sag in the center and collect a big puddle of rain, and at speed it will baloon upward from the negative pressure area behind the cab.----You may want to pad and upholster a sheet of 1/2" plywood, with the vinyl glued to it to prevent "pouching" and "balooning"Old guy hot rodder

Thanks for the idea. I was thinking that if an actual company made one they would have some sort of support from bows, maybe plastic or wood, that would keep it from sagging. A local interior shop said they could make one for approx. $300. I thought not bad but if a company manufactures them on a mass scale it would be cheaper.
If I follow your suggestions and use some plywood, how would you suggest to attach it to the bed?
Thanks again for the help. This is my first hotrod and I need all the help I can get.

If you don't want to drill holes in the sides of the box for some kind of perimeter frame for it to set on, your only other option is to build up something from the bed of the box, like for instance a 3/4" plywood rectangle that just sets inside the existing box and extends upward untill it reaches the proper height to support the cover. I f I was doing that I would hinge the cover along the front of the box so that you could lift it up at the tailgate end to carry stuff in the back of the truck under the tonneau cover.Old guy hot rodder
