new steering
desperately looking for a rack and pinion steering set-up for my car
its a 1955 chevy bel-air 4-DOOR..
wanting to eliminate the steering box for a liitle more clearane for the turbo(s) (coming soon)
is there a rack and pinion steering set-up out of a mass produced car(easily found at a junkyard) that will fit the bel-airs????
all help appriciated guys

There are a number of kits available to put rack and pinion steering on the tri-fives, try a google search.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

yes but im not looking for a new one, iv seen them they are way to expensive for my budget at this point, im looking for something out of and old junker that will fit

csims, why do you feel you need to change the steering for more room? Turbo(s) systems are very flexible in the way they are installed in the car and the turbo(s) can be mounted anywhere under the hood. In a '55 Chevy with a small block, there should be way more room than you could ever need.
There is no magic bullet waiting for you at the boneyard. The only components you'll find there are the R&P, pump and lines, and they will probably need rebuilding. The major part of the conversion rests in the crossmember to mount the rack and the special steering arms. If you have no expertise in the geometry involved in steering and are lacking superior fabricating skills, I suggest you pony up for a well-engineered kit or figure out a way to mount the hair dryers with your present steering system.
