Please dont get mad if i dont buy an engine just yet. I am just getting idea's right now and when I decide to buy an engine I will have to run the deal by my mom because she would be the one truckin me whereever to get it, My dad wants me to use the 267 I have but I know there is no preformance potential for that. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

sooo, my advice, disquise that sucker. Paint it the same color, use the valve covers off the 267 and he shouldnt know the difference for a while. Or, at least till he drives it.Right engine, Wrong Wheels

The only reason i need a speedy car is for one reason. That reason being is I want to be able to go to a good Mechanics school because I want to have a career in hotrod building. I could put this car down on my application with pictures and it should help me through the doors + the diesel benz motor is shot. when my dad bought it it smoked a little to much and he used the head on his identical car except 4 spd and diffrent color. The engine has sat without a head on it since mid summer. I will not be driving this car as a driver just a summer weekend car.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

How is that 350 going to work with the current differential ratios? I know nothing about Mercedes, but I know that a diesel is a torque motor that loves low ratios and a 350 is a hp motor that loves high ratios.

I dont know but madgrinder says it will work, if not al get the gears out of a 560sel differential as they are the same differential besides the gearing inside. a 560sel or 560sl have 5.6L V8's. I also belive that Mercedes gears there cars up or down in the transmission, so the differential gear ratio may be the same or near the 560's rear end gearing.Last edited by Matt167; 01-22-2004 at 05:43 PM.

matt, your far from me in chicago but heres some info this is a web site for chev to swaps that are kinda interesting might shed some light on your swap www.jagsthatrun.com. Your 240D and the 220D should have a 3.92 gear in it which is nice for cruising and getting out of the hole if you run a 700r4 overdrive behind whatever v8 you choose rather than the th350 your current donor probly has. I did find run across the fact that 280s, se and sels had options of 3.92, 4.08 and 4.27 gears a 380 sl had 2.47's the 450sl and sel had either a 2.65 or 3.06 set of gears, I am unsure if they are interchangeable but I would stick with what you have just my opinoin.Last edited by rattymodelA; 01-22-2004 at 07:54 PM.

That's good advice. My transmission is a 200- R4, is that good? The diff ratio seems close enough to the 3.73 ratio in the donor dosent it?You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Thats should be able to work with a 350. However, are you going to be able to match up a tranny gearset to your speedo? Normally, this wouldnt be a problem, but how exactly does german and american match up? anyone?Right engine, Wrong Wheels

I would get the one for 3.73, cuz its going to read your going fast than you really are and probly help you from speeding more than you have to, are you sure its a 200r4 and not a th200 what year was the donor car again?like a volvo with gun racks.....

The donor car is a 1981 chevy impala. On sites that are for impalas they say impalas ither came with a th350 or a mectric 200. The th350 was used on all 350 imp's and some 305 imp's with special packages such as the police package but the 267 came with the 200 metric. When i researched this transmission it came up to be the 200R4, weather or not this is correct information i do not know. I do however belive the engine ( 267 ) is computer controlled because there must be 40 wires running between the intake manifold, carb and what i belive to be a vacume cylynder that reads "Rochester". I think this is somthing for the carb as the carb is a "Rochester" and the two hoses coming off of it run to the carb. All of these wires lead back through the firewall from what i can see as the hood opens less than half way as the car was in a bad accident and it bent up the driver side hinge.Last edited by Matt167; 01-24-2004 at 05:25 PM.

what does your shift indicator read because the th200 has a one peice case where the tail shaft housing the trans is part of the case it doesn't bolt on, it says metric on the oil pan stamped across, if its a 200 your shift ind. will read PRND21 if its a 200r4 it will read PRND321 because the 200r4 is a 4spd overdrive unit. I have seen th350 swaped in place of both before do to availability and reliability so it could be a guess if this thing has miles the fact that the electronic rochester junk is still there means it might be what its sapose to.Last edited by rattymodelA; 01-26-2004 at 11:13 AM.
