    Alternator bracket kit

Anybody have one new/used they can't use?

For a Ford 302. I want to be able to dispose of the stock tensioner set up. I need the kind that allows one to apply tension on the belt, by adjusting the alternator. (Alternator mounted on right side of engine)

Hmmmm....why not just buy the one shown in the link?? You'll spend more than $43 worth of time scrounging around looking for a used one or freebie. Just a thought....

Randyr, I fully expected to pay a reasonable price if a forum member had one, although free would be a bonus..

The $43 is actually a good price if your in the US, paying with US money. My problem is I am looking at the exchange rate of over 30% plus the banks fees for the exchange, plus the $30 US freight that the ebayer wants to charge to ship it to me. Then there is the duty's and taxes, Canada customs may hit me for. Works out to over $100...

If I buy from a private individual, even in the US, and they write "gift, value under $60" on the customs sticker, there is no taxes or duty, and I am sure it can be USPS mailed for less than $30. (I think a lot of ebayers are making profit in thier shipping fees.)

So, that's why I posted this thread..

    Hey Chev,
Thanks for the explanation. I didn't notice you live in BC before I made the comment. There are many challenges for those of us building cars in the U.S. It's difficult to imagine the even greater challenges for you guys building American cars in other parts of the world. I hope you can figure something out to get your bracket at a reasonable price.

    All the best.
    Randy

    Hi Chevy
Before you go and spend any money - you really have to be careful with the SB Ford varieties for alternator brackets. I have no clue how many that there are for these engines but it depends on the head, whether it has bolt holes or not and occasionally the bolt thread or in some cases, occasionally Ford mounted them on the timing housing. And yep, I'm speaking from experience

My current engine, a crate motor with GT40P heads - about as common garden variety head - was a study in frustration for me and for Street and Performance in Arkansas. After several tries, I ended up with 'something close', then had to add a 1/8" shim for proper alignment.

Another - a 351W, I used an ARP stud, a junkyard adjuster and a home made bracket.

Thanks for the offer of the help Ted! I may still take you up on that.

I was concerned about what Dave (IC2) said, about getting the correct ones for my motor. I know the 302's have been around for a long time, so there is likely some differences. I'm going to see if any of the fellows can confirm which bracket kits fit my 90 GT motor, if they can.
