Need parts and info for 37 Willys
I have a 37 Willys I'm planning on fixing up and I need a few parts here and there, and any kind of advice or information you could give about 37-38 Willys cars.
Everything on it is usable except for the engine, which is solid rust. What I need to know is how many parts it has that I could use, like the 3 spd trans, the cable brakes, the rear end or the radiator.
And I would also like to know if a OHV Jeep engine will bolt in, insted of finding another flathead Jeep engine.
Thanks in advance!

Check "parts for sale" here at CHR, there might be somthing in there but i doubt it, the flathead would be cool but, that's just me.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

LOL, the engine bay is pretty small, I think the blower by itself would fit in there.
I would love to have a Mustang SVO engine in there! But that's really more than I want to fool with.
I would like to find a Jeep engine to go back in it, but if the 3 spd is pretty worthless for driving, I will use a drive-train out of somthing else.

I have seen a 40 or 41 willys p/u at a local yearly car show with the jeep ohv motor and it looked like it came from the factory, the shows at the end of the month and if I can find the owner I will get the details.

I forgot that someone local has put a 354 hemi in his 40 coupe and the original motor ran as he drove it,I could see if he wants to sell the drivetrain.

Besides the price of the engine, what do you think it would cost to ship that engine from Ohio to Texas?
And yeah it will be a rod but I just don't want to cram a V8 into it, and I don't have much money to work with, so it will be flat black with flames, and whatever cheap drive train and brakes I can get.
I won't be doing a frame off resto either. But all it really needs is wiring, body work/rust repair and whatever engine I get.
Rat rod style!

I have talked to the owner of the 40 motor and he wants 500 for the motor and trans,I am eyeing a car on ebay from San Antonio so maybe we can work out a deal to deliver. While I am typing this I am looking at a map and might reconsider bidding on that car as its going to be a very long trip to get down there,if I can get the owner to meet me with the car in Dallas I might consider. You might be able to find a jeep motor cheaper as the owner of the 40 kind of knows what this stuff is worth and I dont know if he would take any less.

Yeah, that's a little more work/time/money than I want to spend right now.
But thanks anyway Jeff!

I have a 1953 Willys CJ3A that needed a flathead four. The only engine I could find was the OHV four from a 1953 CJ3B. It bolted right up to the trans and the same mounts. The only difference was the OHV was taller than the flathead. The CJ3B had a hood that was 3 inches taller and my carburetor stuck up through a hole in the hood. If I put the air cleaner on I couldn't fold down the windshield. Other than the head it looks like the same block.
I test fitted a sbc in it but I would have to change the steering to do it. It bolted up to the Jeep trans and transfer case but I didn't think they could handle the torque.
I don't know if the jeep frame is the same as the 37 but they were based on the car so I think it's the same engine that they had in 37" Im gone'

That's cool, I was wondering if the OHV engine would bolt in.
I shouldn't have any space problem either.
Someone told me that the frames are the same, but I would have to see both side by side to be 100% sure.
Hey, how in the world did you get a SBC to bolt up to the old 3 spd?
I like your avatar, where did you find that pic?
Thanks for the info Al.

The Jeep trans had the same bolt pattern as the Chevy bellhousing but I had to remove the clutch and flywheel to get it into place. The steering box stuck out too far to go straight back. If I put in rack and pinion steering it would have fit good. I put a 327 in a 55 Willys overland wagon once and used the Jeep transmission with no problems.
I found the avatar pic online somewhere when I was just browsing." Im gone'
