You're right Dave, this is that photo. It was in 1970 when Big Daddy lost part of his right foot when his tranny/clutch exploded at a race in California. He was in the hospital for about six weeks when he dicided to design a car that wouldn't put the driver into such a dangerous driving position. The following year he brought out the revolutionary Swamp Rat 14, it was the first successful rear-engined dragster. Don was also the first person to incorporate the principles of aerodynamics into dragster designs.

The failure of the ground effects spoiler under Pete's dragster probably was the major contributing factor to his accident that claimed his life.
