a rat rod is self expression.....as long as u put your heart sould blood sweat and tears into it it can be classified as a rat. that goes for all the shiny nice built ones as well, if u built it i classify it as rat cuz chances are you ate peanut butter sandwhiches for lunch and lived paycheck to paycheck dumping every dime you had into something you've always wanted. as long as some1 didnt build it for you and its not a trailor queen its a rat

lol, you would probably be very unpleasantly surprised at how many rats showed up at Back to the 50's (in Minneapolis) this summer and came in on a trailer!!!! I happen to like my trailer queens, matter of fact one of my goals this winter will be to acquire a 40 foot trailer for the race cars and hot rods..... Rat rods don't have the market cornered as a form of self expression, my cars have always been a form of self expression and none of them are rats.

Personally, I'll just be really glad when this rat rodder fad dies and we can all go back to being hot rodders.....

lol, 150 mph with a straight axle and drum brakes is hopefully only attempted at Bonneville or other such wide open area where the lives of others is not endangered.... hmmmmm. what would the stopping distance be @ 150 with drum brakes when Mom and the kids in the mini van pull on the highway from a sideroad about 30 yards ahead of you????

I only have one comment on that definition: WRONG! Wrong on every count.

Part (1) Someone COULD build a rat for you.
Part (2) A nicely finished, driven car isn't a rat.

    Care to try again?

hmmm.. I build my own and they're often transported in a trailer.... What a relief, it's not a rat rod!!!! Sure am glad you helped clarify that, Jack!!!!!

    Dave,

Nobody knows what a rat rod is. Horsepower TV is building a "rat," but the only thing on it that's even mildly ratty is the body. They used a complete P&J frame with a Super Bell axle, chrome coil overs, chrome hairpins, disk brakes, P&J ladder bars and panhard bars, Vega box, yadda, yadda, yadda.

    Standard street rod so far.
