Greg, your point about the "muscle" guys hits it real close. People tend to be sloppy with terminology that's of little to no personal interest/significance to them. They don't "suffer" the consequences of inaccuracy.
An example from outside the hobby. You'll often hear people refer to a driveway or sidewalk as cement. It's not, it's concrete. Sure, cement is a component of concrete, but they're not the same. But people have been getting away with calling it wrong for years because the contractor just gives them what they really want, not what they said. Each of you can probably think of something similar in your area of business expertise. It's all too common.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

So only the new wave of rodders, who are heavily involved in the "___ ___" (sorry, I no longer use that term) :-) segment of the hobby, know the "secret meaning".
At least I don't feel so stupid any more. Now I know why I kept getting it wrong! :-)

[/B][/QUOTE] and in what you just said you are classifying people not there cars this is where all the attitude comesIMO.. i personally can put up with the comments about my ratrod or others but the problem lies with classifying people i have read many posts were the person gets attack because they like ratrods me included. its pretty easy to say that no matter what class of hot rodding your into theres bad apples in everybunch even if they have a well built hot rod so does a person classify them a ratrodder because they play loud music, drink beer, have attiude or whatever or even argue with the people about how a car is suppose to be built just because its not built the way they want it or think it should be, i dont think so. so lets leave the person out of it other than how they came up with idea to build THERE car. i have been saying that the word rat rod is just a way to define a certain style of hot rod . i have said it in many of my posts but i suppose there hard to read when the iggy buttons on. i dont ignore anyone even the one s that are pretty hard on this subject theres times where i wish i would then mrmustang wouldnt have to get after me. with that being said, why does the term ratrod have to classify a car junk. I have read the word ratrod hundred times to myself and still cant find the word junk in it.

Gasser t: I think the recent comments are tongue in cheek. They are just meant to be humorous, and it's nice to see a lighter mood to the posts. In fact, Bob is now a convert, and says he is starting to look for some tuna cans and headlight buckets with rust holes.

donrods, i relize this but i was makeing a point to ensure that if we can control what said about a person things would be fine and then we could carry on about ratrods or any other rod with noing were talking about the rod itself
You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
