It could be that the idea of building the so called ratrod isn't all bad, but when someone keep's calling your "finished" car a ratrod it suck's. Anyone who has pride in what they have built no matter what it started out as will sooner or later hate the word ratrod. I think that is part of the reason for the change in quality.
The next time my neighbors friend comes over to see my ratrod, I going to shove my size 10 boot up his size 5 ...... Toyota. It's a ratrod because it's painted satin black???

I've mentioned this before, but it simply amazes me when some citizen, who you would never think would have heard the term, comes up and says "oh, I see you are building a rat rod there,"How did this person hear that term?? They obviously are not a car person, so has the term become so common that it has even filtered down to everyday people? Is the term being used on "Jeopardy" or "The Price is Right"?????????????
I think the next time it happens I am just going to ask them "where did you hear those words?"

The general public knows so little about cars, that anything that doesn't have shiny paint is called a rat.... Can't do much about misconceptions, most people who don't know enjoy their lack of knowledge!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

This is not a rat rod, it is just under construction. And who said red oxide isn't paint. I get so tired of people asking me"what color are you going to paint it". FU moron.

I saw a feaux rat rod on one of the Saturday morning shows. Was a 37 Ford, glass no less, with holes purposely put in it and rust dripped on to it from an old water pipe. Had an LS1 in it with fuel rail covers that made it look like a flatty with Ardun heads. It was a totally modern car with the "not/never will be finished" look. They were calling it a low cost build. I guess in the day of 6 and 7 figure cars that is all relative. It did have a nice stance and look to it, but like Jack says, "We never made them look bad on purpose!" Well this guy did...
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Pat,
I suppose the next step will be the "faux rat" look. I've mentioned this before, but the boys at Gibbon welded old, rusty rails over a new P&J chassis to make it look ratty. Then Horsepower TV took a state-of-the-art P&J chassis and powder coated it "rust."
This is not a rat rod, it is just under construction. And who said red oxide isn't paint. I get so tired of people asking me "what color are you going to paint it". FU moron.
Is it not logical for someone to ask what color you're going to paint it when they see it in primer? Seems pretty normal to me.Jack

That rat rod on HP TV is an absolute joke. It was as if some yuppies had this idea to build it and did things like the floorboards you mentioned, and they even went so far as to run the 4 bolts for the MSD box through the top of the cowl so it would look "ratty."
That build served no purpose whatsoever, and some future owner will be welding up those holes and tossing some street signs into the trash. I thought it was also funny when the one host went out of his way to let us know they didn't steal the stop signs "we got them from the local police dept."
THe whole thing sort of reminded me of white guys trying to rap.

Shine's re-poped ride is awesome. The painted fraime and all the chrome parts sure show that he HAS left the dark side. I still think a painted body would have completed an amazing car. Now, the bare metal is too much of a contrast. But, it's his idea, and it's still great.
Oh, and the blonde got the heave-ho. Too bad it happened about 6 weeks later than it should have. She may have developed the talent, but, man, that attitude.
On the other soap opera, Liz got cut from the crew. That sucked. She was a hard worker, great personality, and knew what she was doing. Looks like the head blonde beyotch couldn't handle it. Is Boyd just a little bit "whipped?"Jack

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
