The funny thing about the Japanese products is that in the early years we all referred to it as "Jap Crap", but over the years things began to change. The Japanese are very smart, dedicated people who don't really reinvent the wheel, they just improve on what was already out there.
An example are Yamaha outboard engines. In the beginning most of the commercial fishermen and guides in this area refused to buy them because they were not American made. However, over time they saw the guys who were using the Yamahas out working while their own Mercury and Evinrude engines were in the shop being repaired. Now you will be hard pressed to find a guide boat in this area that doesn't have a Yamaha sitting on the back.....same goes for most of the Police patrol boats. We sold every brand outboard engine made, and the Yamahas were by far the most dependable, and if there was a problem they took care of it like right now. One factory rep told me that if he made a decision to help a customer out he could do it on his own, but if he decided to turn down that help he had to go through 5 levels and explain why.
I did business with the Japanese years ago, and they are a pleasure to do business with. You shake hands and that is the deal, no BS, and they expect you to live up to your end. Even their workers had a real work ethic and took pride in doing the very best job they could do, even if it was simply putting a bolt in some substructure.
It bothers me that so many products come from overseas, which translates into fewer jobs here, but in some instances we have to take the blame ourselves........we have allowed the competition to build a better mousetrap, and people will buy what works.

VW front beams were and are used in rods all the time and they will hold a v8 up no prob. Have look where it sits on my bus and then add up all that weight plus 2 people sitting directly over it. ( I weigh 240)
They are available in aluminum and chromoly and if you shave the shock horns off it loses most of its ugly. Actually the aluminum ones with out shock towers look pretty damn good. I've seen them on drag racers and they take the pounding of being pulled off the ground over and over. Like anything there are god aluminum one and bad aluminum ones.
One of my fav things about it is once its converted to an adjustable beam (like the one I have installed) I can drop my front end 4 inches in 20 minutes and reverse it just as quick.
Go to www.volksrods.com and you can see a shitload of em used in all kinds of wild friggin rides..
Thank you Roger. .
