If the solenoid contacts are stuck, that is a fact that the starter will crank.

Not true. Look at the drawing for the wiring. You really need to seperate the 2 circuits, or you will never figure this out.
danny Sammyprgandy is saying 2 dif. things, the first post he had a dead short, the last post the alt. wont keep the motor running so i cant tell if hes got a short or bad alt. ive told him a couple of times the alt dont have nothing to do with the truck starting. so i dont know how to help him.
