Thread: i need advice from experts

I am looking to build a late 50's to early 60's truck either ford or chevy, my plans with it will include a no frills interior a mild v6 or v8 with auto trans , probably a standard rearend with a flat black primer exterior. I know this is probabaly a dum question but about how much do you all think i can do this for and have any of you all ever worked with these styles trucks before and had any problems.?

in fact- I think 5 grand is a little high. I.E.- I picked up a '59 Chevy Apache PU without a motor for 500 bucks. A 307ci motor for 50, a flywheel & had it turned for another 50, all the patch panels & corners I needed for 400 bucks which included front-end parts new......I shopped- that leaves me 4 grand to paint & do the interior so I'm gonna get under that easy.
I also picked up a '82 S-10 with a busted 2.8 V-6 for 50 bucks- there are a lot of them around with busted cranks, so if you look you can find what you want....you just got to look, and not be in a hurry.

only way to fly. To many "rodders" out there that can't do anything but bolt- ons, and if someone doesn't give them the right "combo" they just give up.
I like to do ALL my own work, from designing my own bucket seats to setting up my own cam grind.
I didn't get the skills I have from bolt-on stuff...in fact, when i was growing up it was considered a JOKE to buy fender flairs, or hood scoops- you made them, and if you wanted the respect from the other hot rodders around, you made them from steel, fiberglass would get you a "eh" and their respect was a needed thing if you wanted any advice from them on your progress.
Now I treat most of the young guy's the same way around here, and they respect me for it- because I teach them something that is worth something, the same that was taught to me, that the quality of your workmanship is directly related to the way you see your total self worth.
So, now...will it be cheap & easy, or is it worth more to do it yourself?

JrFan8 You got some great advice from all those who answered and believe me when I can put in my 2cents worth and say I know where there's a 53 ford with a 292 engine with a 4 speed on the floor and all he wants is $3500. Now this truck is streetable but does need some work and if I liked that year of ford I'd buy it. They are out there or you can find diferen't parts at shows or junk yards and have fun building something to your own liking. Good Luck!
